missing shx files.jpg

My bosses pc's shows up the attached missing SHX files error message when he opens a drawing with missing font files. I have a new install of Autocad and I've never ticked the box 'Always perform my current choice' and I don't get that error message. See attached screen dump. Why does he get that message and I don't? How do I make my Autocad have that error message?

One possibility is that you have an alternate font specified and your boss doesn't

Another possibility is you have a custom linetype that utilizes a shape file which your boss does not have access to.

Have you got any examples of that?

Also, this is unrelated, but how do I place a quote as you have under your replies.

Under the post you want to quote, look at the bottom right of that post's border, and you'll see 3 buttons.

Select 'Reply with Quote'. A reply box will open under that post.

Within that post you'll see The start of the quote that contains the poster's name and post no. and at the end of the post .

Left click at the end of and start typing away.

EDIT: Within the quote, you'll find everything typed by the poster. You can delete some of the quote as you feel necessary, so that you can quickly show what you're referencing from.

You can format it. Eg: Bold, Underline, Italics, Change font etc. You can also add words within that quote too.

If you're talking about the quotes at the very end, that's in your signature. Click on Settings, go down to My Settings, then click on Edit Signature.

If you are using .SHX files, e.g., certain text fonts, that your boss's computer doesn't have, then you would not see the error message, because your computer has them. Have you verified what the situation actually is, yet?

If you are using .SHX files, e.g., certain text fonts,

.SHX shape files need not be uniquely text fonts. I have seen surveys where a common shaped detail has been a shape instead of a block. But the message does not differentiate between font, linetype or symbol shape files.

This is correct, thus the "e.g." The error message mentions symbol fonts and ReMark noted that it could even be used in a Linetype, thus some searching could be in order.

I can't see those options. There is no my settings.

Maybe it has something to do with being a newbie to CADTutor and not having a minimum of 10 posts.

Otherwise you click on the Settings option in the upper right hand corner of the web page then look under My Settings > Edit Signature (that's what those quotes are called) which should be on the left hand side of your screen.

IF it is a missing FONT, then the OP will be prompted for a FONT with this dialog:

6a00e5521b79d8883401347fa8c8a2970c-pi

Otherwise, it's a missing SHAPE file, in which case the OP will get a regular file selection dialog.

i used to get this a lot with drawings from a customer that used micro-station.

just always clicked cancel and never had a problem. it was supermarket layouts with loads of stuff brought it from 3rd parties. i figured the missing thing could've come from anywhere, could take a month to find, and could turn out to be a rivet on a freezer or something else completely irrelevant.

.....or it could be the stop button on a nuclear missile....i don't know your application.:D

I would suggest, after you click "ignore missing .shx files" you open up the text-window (F2) and look at what .shx files are missing. ie Star.shx

then check your bosses shape file pathing in 'AutoCAD -> Options -> Files'. All of my .shx files are located under "Support File Search Path" ie. "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD Version\fonts" it should be identical to yours (because when you open the drawing you can see the.shx files)

Oh, and if you dont know where the missing shape file is (star.shx) do a 'find' in the directory for it. I usually just do a *.shx search and put whatever shape files I can into my own private reserve so im never caught unawares

Hope that helped.
