ahodgson Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I'm working in 3D to create models but to get the dimensions right I'm creating the centre lines and then sweeping the shape around it to form the solid. I've created an arc in one plane, however I now want to 'bend' the arc around a cylinder. I've attached a drawing to make it all a bit clearer, I want to bend that arc around the green cylinder. Any suggestions how best to do this? Thanks in advance! bend_it.dwg Quote
Dadgad Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Welcome to CADTutor. I believe what you are trying to do is a HELIX. Still not really following your intentions. Enter HELIX at your commandline, and follow and explore the prompts. After you create a helix you can alter many of the properties to modify its attributes. Once created it can be used as a sweep path to create a 3D Solid. Quote
ReMark Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Your arc is not in contact with your cylinder. Not sure if you are aware of that or not. Quote
ReMark Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Is this what you had in mind? This was done using the Helix command as suggested by Dadgad. Quote
ReMark Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Cool thing you can do with your helix. Sweep a circle along the path of the helix then subtract it from the cylinder. Quote
