when i draw a shape such as a square or circle it automacticlly snaps to the xy axis and only shows up as a line instead of the shape.

also if i try to rotate an object into the z direction it will no go.

my snaps are not on

and this is only on my personal computer when i open the file at school it works fine.

It draws ok but it shows you the drawing from a wrong angle. The Z axis should point to you, not upward. AutoCAD will draw by default in the XY plane. Enter PLAN in the command line and press enter twice -this should restore the "normal" state.

hey everyone,

once again thanks for the help. I tried to upload the file but it was to big, i tried to zip it and it was still to big.

i have found a solution though. i have and old version of the drawing and it doesn't have the same problem so i will just have to use it.

My opinion is the same: the Z axis should point to you, not upward. The square is showed as a line because you see it from profile. Also the cylinder spins because you rotate it around the OZ, wich is paralell with its own axis.

If for some reasons PLAN can't set the orientation, try to do it yourself with the 3DORBIT command. Rotate the image until the X axis is horizontal pointing to right and Y is vertical pointing up.

An other way to fix it: Go to View>Named views, search for TOP view and set it current. But in this last case I must admit that AutoCAD2009 may have a different menu structure so maybe you can't follow me. As you can see in my profile, I still use AutoCAD2006
