mostafa badran Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Hi all, is there any way to share DWG file in local network and work in it in same time Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 You would like to be able to have two users share/edit a drawing simultaneously? Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 You would not be able to do that using plain AutoCAD. I believe some of the vertical products allow for simultaneous editing but I'm not 100% sure which one(s) that might be. What are you drawing? Quote
SLW210 Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Stop creating new threads on the same question. I have moved your threads and combined them in the AutoCAD 2D Drafting, Object Properties & Interface forum, it has nothing to do with LISP. Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 As SLW mentioned you could use xrefs. One way to do this is divide the drawing in half and each individual works on his own portion of the drawing. Xref these two drawings into a "master" drawing for a finished product. Quote
mostafa badran Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 I draw HVAC system but the format of the drawing is DWG and I cant use any other product Quote
ReMark Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 (edited) No one here mentioned another product. Xrefs are "external references" which have been a feature of full AutoCAD since version 2008. If you have questions about their use then ask. That's what we are here for. Correction: R11 (1990) for Xrefs Sorry, but I have to go out into the plant for a while. Someone else is bound to answer any question(s) you have though so don't give up just yet. Edited October 1, 2013 by ReMark Fixed my mistake per rkm Quote
rkent Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 mostafa badran - Give us a much better description of how you see the file being worked on at the same time. In other words are you wanting two people to work on HVAC in the drawing at the same time, or are we talking about one person working on the floor plan while another works on the HVAC, or ...? Quote
mostafa badran Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 we coordinate between electrical systems and HVAC and we need to work in same time Quote
rkent Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Using an Arch background, call it A01. Open the Elec drawing, call it E01. Using xref command, xref in with overlay option A01 and M01. Save often. Open the Mech drawing, call it M01. Using xref command, xref in with overlay option A01 and E01. Save often. Set XLOADCTL to 2 for each file. Quote
mostafa badran Posted October 1, 2013 Author Posted October 1, 2013 rkent - thanks i will try it and thank for your cooperation Quote
rkmcswain Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Xrefs are "external references" which have been a feature of full AutoCAD since version 2008. You mean since R11 in 1990 :-) Quote
rkmcswain Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I believe some of the vertical products allow for simultaneous editing but I'm not 100% sure which one(s) that might be. You can sort of do that using AutoCAD Map, where multiple users "check out" portions of the drawing, then check them back in. Way overkill if that is the only feature you're after IMO. Quote
sepultura Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 You have complex system and you definetly need database for hvac objects storage. You have to collect all your dwg drawings and convert your objects to spatial database like Oracle Spatial. Then you have right solution for multiple users editing objects in database, and CAD is only editing interface. You can use dwg for distribution purposes. Vertical product with oracle connectivity is Autodesk Map. If you can't effort map, there is cloud extension for babacad freeware. If you want more info just ask. Quote
mostafa badran Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 thank for all I will try and tell you about result Quote
