wannabe Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Can anyone explain to me if there is a system variable that will tell CAD not to automatically create a drawing each time I run AutoCAD. Basically I like to use the ACAD icon and browse the recently open drawings. Unfortunately I have to cancel the new drawing template wizard, wait for a drawing 1 to initilise and then delete drawing one. Its only 2 or 3 minutes, but still wasted time. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Check the FILEDIA variable setting. From the Help file in AutoCAD ------- If the FILEDIA system variable is set to 0, no dialog boxes are displayed, except for the Customize User Interface dialog box. 0 Displays the Select Template dialog box, or uses a default drawing template file set in the Options dialog box, on the Files tab. 1 Displays the Startup and the Create New Drawing dialog boxes ------- Quote
dbroada Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 be careful changing FILEDIA. It turns off ALL boxes including the select file to open one. I think Dipali has the correct approach. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 ??? Then i have 1 wierd machine as it has not turned all of them off in mine - i'll have to go re-digg into settings and see what i did. (maybe reload my original profile) Quote

(maybe reload my original profile) OK, maybe not all of them. Certain commands (INSERT) bring up their own dialogue box irrespective of this setting but the important OPEN file one is controlled by it. Check how often "I've lost my open file box" is asked Quote
wannabe Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 Ok. Its getting there. The problem, well small issue, shall we say, is that when I now want to create a new drawing, if I click file -> new I get the dialog box as opposed to the wizard. Ideally I will have the wizard appear on demand and not by default on startupt. Also, is there a way so I can stop the drawing1 even being created at all on startup. It didnt appear to be conclusive in the help menu when I looked up startup. Progress has been made, though; and I am grateful. Quote

(if (= (getvar "dwgname" "Drawing1.dwg")) (command "_.close" "_y") );if this will close the drawing1 but keep the window open (untested, remember, i'm on my mac) Quote
