Custom Parts from PartBuilder

Recommended Posts

So I need to make some cleanouts and custom manholes. I can create the parts no problem in the partbuilder. I understand the dimensions and how to create the part but how to I load it into my parts catalog so I can use it in an existing job??? We do not use vault or anything like that, and I do the partcatalogregen, but my new parts never show up??? I dont even know where it is saving it at???

Any ideas???

Thank You, and Much Respect.

I think you need to add the custom part to your catalog. Go to the settings tab - pipe network - parts list and open the catalog you saved it to by right-clicking on the catalog and select 'edit'. This should open the catalog. Right-click on the top menu item, and select 'add part family' you should see your custom part there. Pick one or all that you need and click 'ok'. This will add them to the catalog. Hope this helps.

What is the US Imperial Structures.apc? What is the extension .apc

When I am in the parts builder and I create a new part it will not allow me to save it??? Here is a screen shot. Do I need to create a new .apc file from the beginning in order to build my own parts list. ugh... this is wacky. I wish I could just have someone teach me this business, I know it is much easier than I am making it seem haha. But thank You Phil I am sure your input will be of great help once I can get all my pathing issues taken care of???

it looks like you're trying to overwrite an existing folder. at the top/left click the icon between the save and the cactus. this will open up the 'save part family as' dialog box. create a new chapter, give your part a name and description and it should be able to be used.

I am looking to create some very specific custom parts in pipe network part builder, some would sound striaght forward however causing me serious head aches. I need items such as Bends, bellmouths, tapers gatevalves to name a few? Any suggestions would be greatfully recieved.

The best thing I have found is learn all of the parameters and just modify parts from there. Sounds to me though you are looking for more water line parts, I believe there is a separate add on for pressure pipes...???

Thanks, yes i have the pressure network system and the part builder for this is very simple. I was looking to use pipe networks as this is a scour and overflow system from a tank which connects to drainage network. Pressure pipes would create a visual representation of what i require however doesnt connect into drainage network.

Well shoot the drainage network should be no problem for you then??? What are you having problems with exactly? You can go a pretty long way with just modifying existing parts, but figuring out how to create your own is not all that difficult just tedious... The issue with creating something like tapers and parts to fit into your network would just be defining the graphical insertion point... with Manholes and Cleanouts it is always just the rim elevation, but I am sure you can define it to a pipe invert???

To be honest all of it, i dont understand the different work planes and how this interacts and you draw your parts, i also don't understand all the different dimension setting etc.my items would all be a fixed size.To be honest i have 3dsolids of all parts and would of thought there was an option to use these like you do with pressure networks.

best place to start is with the tutorials. it is simple and explains the basics. I had a list of all the definitions but if you turn on tool tips it will give you a description of each dimension in the plane. I will try to get back to You on a list of them I know I have it somewhere.

But yeah best bet is just do the basic tutorial on AutoCAD, this is where I started:

You can read in the 3D-solids to a catalog with Content Catalog Editor (seperat program, search on Start) - then load the catalog into a parts list in Civil.
