2Tal
Hi all, as can bee seen I have just joined the forum, my intro is here > http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?82576-Howya-Community&p=563618#post563618 I have recently started designing a few replacement parts for a motorcycle restoration I am working on and while up to now I have been working in the 2D space I need to convert a 2D drawing to 3D! I think I have a list of commands and tools to be used but for the life of me I cannot turn on the VIEW CUBE . . . I spent about 90 minutes trying last night I did look in options and it was not visible there?
ReMark
NAVVCUBE=ON. Only works if your visual style is something other than 2Dwireframe. Wait. Was that feature even available in 2007?
steven-g
Welcome to CADTUTOR, I don't think it was introduced until 2009, I could be wrong on that being LT, and its called a navvcube, which might help (if I am wrong)
ReMark
OK...I just confirmed that the View Cube was indeed introduced in AutoCAD 2009. 2Tal: Had you been using a later version of AutoCAD before going back to 2007? Just had an opportunity to test in AutoCAD 2007.... Command: NAVVCUBE Unknown command "NAVVCUBE". Press F1 for help. Looks like 2Tal is out of luck. He will have to resort to manually manipulating the UCS and using the 3DOrbit command. Edited October 30, 2013 by ReMark
2Tal
Hey thanks guys, yes I did try the NAVVCUBE command and it didnt work ~ no I have been using 2007 all along with a brief 30 day trial version of 2013 to check out what the new platform was like. my main goal was to convert 2D to 3D, might scout around here and see whats available and/or open a new thread. Thanks guys, no wonder I couldnt find any info last night.
ReMark
The View Cube only helps the user to work in a 3D environment it does not convert geometry from 2D to 3D.
2Tal
ok I understand ! it was part of a list of commands/tools in the process of converting . . . thanks again ReMark
Cad64
Please post your Autocad questions in the Autocad 3D section, not the 3D Studio Max section. I have moved your thread to the Autocad 3D Modeling & Rendering section.
JD Mather
...my main goal was to convert 2D to 3D... What trouble are you experiencing achieving this goal in 2007?
ReMark
I get the feeling the OP has no 3D experience and did not know where to start. Maybe he thought, as some do, the transition to 3D was just a click away.
JD Mather
.... the transition to 3D was just a click away. go to Toos>Add-ins and load the Easy Button.... oops, I guess that wasn't in r2007..
ReMark
I think Amazon sold out all the Easy buttons however the OP might find a copy of Alan J. Kalameja's book AutoCAD 2007 - 3D Modeling, A Visual Approach, Thomas-Delmar Learning publishers. It comes with a CD-ROM of drawings keyed to the exercises in the book. It's a 571 pages cover these nine major topics: 3D AutoCAD Working in 3D Space Building Wireframe Models Surface Models Creating Solid Primitives Editing Solids and Concept Modeling Analyzing 3D Models Paper Space and 2D Output Rendering and Motion Studies

Apologies Cad64 - I had noticed that after it was too late .... where is that embarrising smilee .... ah here it is > What trouble are you experiencing achieving this goal in 2007? JD - I have opened a new thread for this issue in 3D modelling I get the feeling the OP has no 3D experience and did not know where to start. Correct on the first part ReMark - ....... click away - would be nice I think Amazon sold out all the Easy buttons however the OP might find a copy of Alan J.
