Organic Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 How does us giving you plans help you improve your CAD skills? If you want help with something specifically, then just ask. Quote
yekim Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 just to have something to work on, (copying the plan) cuz really im just a beginner at autocad. And also just to have a feel at doing plans. Quote
Barneel Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I recommend looking out for any local tutorials/workshops that you could attend. They make a big difference to a beginner for a nice jump-start. Otherwise look on youtube - there are so many good guides. Unrelated: Organic, your picture is magnificent. Quote
yekim Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 hmm ok, i guess its also illegal to just give a sample plan to anybody. Quote
ReMark Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) hmm ok, i guess its also illegal to just give a sample plan to anybody. Let's get one thing straight, it is not illegal to give someone a sample drawing to practice with. What program would you be using? Currently your profile lists "AutoCAD not". What kind of "civil" drawing would you be look for? Be specific. Is it a site plan? A plan and profile for a road? A sewer plan and profile? Maybe a bridge design? There are all kinds of civil engineering projects. How many can you name? Floor plans and elevations you say? You mean like for a house (architectural)? Or for something like a water treatment plant or municipal parking garage? How much CAD experience do you have so far? What courses have you taken? What books have you purchased? What tutorials have you done? You want our help we're going to need some answers otherwise you're just wasting our time. Click on the link below. You'll be taken to a website with images of architectural elevations and sections available for downloading that you can use to practice your skills. http://www.andysbestcad.com/architectural.htm Edited November 6, 2013 by ReMark Quote

ReMark Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Drawings of houses normally fall under the classification of "architectural". Let's use the correct terminology OK? Did you check out the link I provided? What books have you read so far? What program are you using to do your drawings? What have you accomplished so far? Can you post an image? I can provide you with a simple 1-story house floor plan along with elevations but I have to know what program you are using. Is it an AutoCAD-clone? For practice you can draw up the floor plan and elevations for your own house. The nice thing about that is you can measure things yourself. You can find a couple of CAD drawings of floor plans here... http://www.cadforum.cz/catalog_en/?q=floor+plan Edited November 6, 2013 by ReMark Quote
Dana W Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 hmm ok, i guess its also illegal to just give a sample plan to anybody. It is not that it is illegal. The plans that I have drawn as a professional are either my intellectual property, or that of my clients, fur which they pay dearly, and I am bound by contract to protect their property. Quote
ReMark Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) The plan I drew, and offered, was drawn for Habitat for Humanity. I gave it to them for free. yekim: More floor plans can be found here....http://www.bibliocad.com/library/floor-plan_44125 Floor plans of buildings located on five college campuses in Alaska can be found here....http://fpgis.uaa.alaska.edu/CampusBuildingsDWG.htm Seek and ye shall find. BTW...where in the world are you located? Will you be working in metric units? Edited November 6, 2013 by ReMark Quote

As Dana said, it is generally not illegal to share most plans with you. The plans of large bridges, buildings, dams etc are obviously heavily restricted however and sharing them without approval probably is illegal somehow. Although more importantly, at the end of the day, it is the client paying for the design and plans so most firms cannot simply give you copies of these plans, many of which are confidential, even if they have no security risk, like those of bridges etc as mentioned above. If you want to know how to set out a drawing and what should be included then we can help etc. Quote
Organic Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 sir, this is what im looking for, more on houses (vertical structures/buildings maybe) thank you for this. Im just learning through reading pdf books i downloaded. Have a look at http://forum.civilea.com/ and there is a section there for people to share AutoCad drawings, most of which are structural and architectural in nature. There are a few interesting ones I remember including full structural and geotechnical design of a small apartment building, a large shopping centre and a few bridges etc. I wouldn't trust or rely any of the engineering presented in those plans though. While CivilEA is a global forum, it seems to be frequented more so by a lot of middle eastern engineers, so if you are from that area they may be able to help you out more specifically with plans specific to the country you are working in. It costs $10 or something like that a year to be a member of that forum. Quote
ReMark Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I don't think there is anything illegal about making the plans of buildings and bridges available to the general public for viewing purposes. You may get asked what your interest in the plans might be if you were to ask for copies. Most building departments would probably be well within their rights to refuse to make copies but you can still look at the plans in their offices. Quote
