DannySully91 Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Hi there, i have two questions, the first - Can i save my dwg file in a later version (2012) using the autocad trial 2014? second question - how long would it take to download the trial version? thank you Quote
PotGuy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 To my knowledge, all AutoCAD versions can save down to a previous format when you perform a save as. Look at the bottom bar which tells you what version you're saving in, click it and it will give all available formats it can save it. Your second question depends on your ISP speed you've purchased, though even then that will depend on how much bandwidth the Autodesk server will utilise. Also, I'm not sure whether a trial version will leave a watermark like the Student version of AutoCAD does. Hopefully a more experienced member will step in to fill out this blank. Quote
ReMark Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 2012 is not a later version it is an earlier version. In AutoCAD it is possible to go back in time and save from a newer version like 2014 down to an earlier version like 2012. BTW....trial versions are really just time-limited full versions of AutoCAD. There should not be any watermarks when printing from the trial. Quote
DannySully91 Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 thanks for your help. yes that is another worry, would it leave a watermark? If i was to work on the drawing on the trail programme then print from a full version of autocad? Quote
PotGuy Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Re-read ReMark's post. He said that it will not leave a watermark. Edit: just saw time you posted; same time as me! Darn. Quote
Bill Tillman Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I'll chime in on that one too. That's one nice thing about AutoDesk's trial versions. They are not watered down, with limits on their capabilities. They are the full blown real McCoy...it's just that they only last 30 days. AutoCAD 2014 saves in 2013 format...prior to that it saves to 2010 format (2010 - 2012) and prior to that it's 2009...when you go back further than that you're getting into older versions which really should have been replaced by now. I know, I know...some people out there are using 2004 and loving it..and I'm sure there are people still using R14 or even earlier. Hey if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Quote
ReMark Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 One correction to what Bill said. You can "save as" a DWG file to the following formats from AutoCAD 2014: 2013, 2010, 2007, 2004, 2000 and R14. If you do a "save as" to the DXF file format you can add one more: R12. There are LT equivalents as well. Bill: If I'm not mistaken we have several members using 2000, a couple using R14 and I think one (maybe?) using R12. And I think at one point we had someone using a DOS version (not 100% sure). His name escapes me at the moment. Quote
Bill Tillman Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Hey I learned AutoCAD with Rel 10...when the whole shabang would fit on a single, 1.4 MB 3-1/2 floppy diskette. I can't blame people for wanting to keep things simple. Quote
ReMark Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 The first floppy disk with AutoCAD on it that I got was a 5-1/4". Quote
Bill Tillman Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Yes sir. Release #10 was low density 5-1/4" diskettes. Way back in December of 1992 I used PKZIP to make a zipped copy of each diskette in the set. Then when I examined what I had I saw that all eight of the zip files could fit on one 3-1/2" 1.4M floppy. I could literally carry the full blown release plus a few lisp tools around in my shirt pocket. Quote
