Please check the PURGE command, it may be needed to run it more then once to get rid of all unreferenced entities. If you intend to further edit that drawing, please pay attention to don't remove items that may stil be required.

It may also help to call first the prompt version of this command (-PURGE, please notice the hyphen) and ask to clean all Regapps.

Hi Mircea,

I already used this -Purge but the files string down 40mb from 500mb...still I cannot insert any blocks and copy and paste drawings from another file.

Many thanks,

Rose

First run the OVERKILL command on the drawing. This will eliminate duplicate and overlapping lines.

Second do a -purge of Regapps only.

Third do a -purge but this time use the All option.

Fourth do an Audit of the drawing.

Do you make use of layer filters?

Is there a lot of hatches in the drawing?

Are xrefs being used?

Does your drawing have a bloated scalelist?

Has any part of your drawing made use of content originally created in Microstation?

Is this a 2D or 3D drawing? 500MB is pretty big. What is a normal file size for the type of work you do?

Do you have a 2010 version of either plain AutoCAD or MEP installed on another machine?

1. Ok I try the overkill command

2. I already try the -PU and then regapps

3. I also try the -PU and then ALL option

4. Then after that audit

5. I do not used the layer filters and how to use that layer filters?

6. Have hatches but not so much.

7. Yup I used xref

8. What is bloated scale list...please? I dont have idea about this.

9. Yup sometimes drawings are originally made in Microstation and then converted to autocad.

10. 2d drawing only

11. I used MEP 2013 version.

Many thanks Remark for your questions...

Your problem may not related to file size.

May be the units of the daring and the units of the block or the source drawing of copied items are different. So items may getting inserted at ver small size and u can not see them.

So check units of the drawing and also at which scale the items are getting inserted.

I checked the units both block and my drawings are in millimeter...even when I open the file its very slow. Im also worried if I need to transfer that drawings to the client the files is too big. Not only one drawing but all the files on that Project.

Ok try this.

Use erase command>

Select all

Remove object >select with window all visible objects

Enter

Than purge and audit.

It may bring down the file size.

You won't know until you try.
