Hi,

My CAD experience and usage is quite basic. I use the mouse, and only enter and escape on the keyboard. However enter and escape are almost as far apart on the keyboard as you can get.

Is there a way of doing the same thing with keys that are closer.

This sounds quite unimportant, but it’s bugging the hell out of me, one side of the keyboard to the other all day long. Why not just use the enter on the number pad and the delete button to cancel or exit a command. (I should add, that i use my left hand on the keyboard, my left hand isn't too straight after a nasty break, i also have some nerve damage to my fingers which complicates finding keys without looking, it gets a bit painful and annoying moving all day, hence the motivation to find a way round this)

Is there anyway I can change this (not my hand the keys)? Or another way of doing it.

Sorry if none of this makes sense, sorry if its actually very simple, I’d bet there are a lot of simple short cuts and quick functions that I haven’t a clue about.

I'm using AutoCad LT 2011

Thanks for your help.

You don't even use command aliases?

Mothball your keyboard by creating a custom toolbar with the Cancel and Enter commands assigned to buttons. Then you can stop wearing out your fingers by reaching for the Esc and Enter keys.

I have the thumb button on my mouse set for ENTER. You can also Right-Click and select Cancel. Spacebar acts as ENTER, also.

A simple custom toolbar with the Cancel and Enter commands assigned. Cancel is on the left. The choice of images was arbitrary as I all really wanted to do was demonstrate that it could be done.

After editing the bitmap images to something a little more suitable. How's that big red "X"? Does that say CANCEL in no uncertain terms? The Enter key points opposite of what you'll find on your keyboard but it gets the point across.

I wouldn't think you need ESC for much of anything.

Use space bar for enter. Right click of mouse for Cancel.

In the line command, as an example, you can exit that command by hitting the space bar.

You can program the right mouse button (and wheel) to perform different commands in conjunction with the shift or ctrl buttons, open the CUI and look for mouse buttons, and change the macro to suit your needs (as standard most buttons will open the shortcut menu - so you can choose one to be the escape command)

I read of someone (this was a more than a few years back) who because of a spinal cord accident relied entirely on voice actuated commands.

I want to be that guy while someone walks by and yells, erase all, qsave, qsave, close.

I wonder what AutoCAD does when he sneezes, coughs or has the hiccups?

My guess would be Oops.

Thanks guys, using space as enter is the simplest answer, does the job perfect, hand stays in one place and i get to use CAD in a way I'm familiar with.
