lphilpot Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 (CAD beginner here, trying to learn it purely out of personal interest, not on the job. I'm using Draftsight, but at this level I assume it's close if not identical to 2D AutoCAD.) I'm working through a tutorial on MyCADSite.com (http://www.we-r-here.com/cad_07/tutorials/level_2/2-8.htm), drawing and attempting to hatch the second Extra Practice assignment at the bottom of that page: http://www.we-r-here.com/cad_07/tutorials/level_2/images/extra_2-004a.gif. I've drawn it from a closed polyline with a circle overlapping it but I'm not sure how to assign different hatches to each of the six sections as shown in the second link above. I've tried opening the hatch dialog, selecting the polyline and choosing points, but I can't get there. I exploded the polyline into lines and tried selecting points again, but no good. I tried selecting the entire (unexploded) polyline, but I can't assign individual different hatches to each section - I just get the usual all/in-out, etc. behavior. I assume I could manually construct entities to match each section, but that gives me the same bad vibes as using goto when programming. Just doesn't seem right. What obvious thing am I missing? Unless I'm blind, the tutorial didn't address this kind of situation, and I've not seen the answer elsewhere (yet). I searched the forums here, but really didn't see the answer, either. Can someone point me the right direction? Thanks and Merry Christmas. P.S. - I can attach my drawing if necessary, assuming I figure out how. Quote
ReMark Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 DraftSight is very similar to AutoCAD but it is not identical. In AutoCAD if one were to just select a hatch pattern and click inside one of the pie shaped areas only that portion of the circle would be hatched. That's "click inside the area"; no need to pick lines or polylines or the circle itself. I am not on my CAD computer at the moment but when I get a chance to fire it up I'll check on this for you as I also have DraftSight installed. Addendum: Use the "Specify Points" option (under Boundary Settings) and pick/click inside the area as I previously mentioned. You do not have to select any entities. I just tested the procedure in my version of DraftSight. Quote

I was thinking "points" as in grips, etc., not "a point in space". Works great - Thanks! Quote
