tomtomtom Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Hi all I was hoping someone could help me with creating transitions in autocad civil 3D. I have a curve which I want to connect to a straight via a cubic parabola transition. But every time I try to create it something goes wrong. I have attached the file I am working on to this email, could some one shed some light and or direct me to some user guides on how to achieve this? Thanks Help With Transitions.dwg Quote
Tiger Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 You want to create an Alignment? Do you use Design Criteria? Have you played with the curve settings on the Alignment Tools Toolbar? Quote
Organic Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I know what you mean but haven't personally done it in Civil 3d although as Tiger said, the horizontal alignment tools should be able to handle it. If not, you may need to calculate the parameters and then manually draw the transitions, then create an alignment from the resulting polyline/string representing the centreline. For anyone interested, a decent explanation of transition curves and why they're needed (especially on highways etc) can be found here: http://www.usq.edu.au/course/material/SVY2301/CIV2701/Lectures/Lecture%2014%20-%20CIV2701%20-Transition%20Curves.pdf Quote
