PRSS Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Hello everybody This may seem to be a very trivial question. I simply wish to know what the international standard or ISO standard for dimensioning Architectural Metric drawings? Is it in Meters or in Millimeters? I was always under the impression that it was MM. But here in my country, the state govt. standard for submitting drawings for approval is in Meters. But when I receive some drawings from MNC corporates, or Machinery lay-out for a factory & the like, they are all in Millimeters. One MNC (for corporate identity - they have some standardized lay-outs) gave in Centimetres (it is an European company in my country). So I am a bit confused on what is the prevailing standard for dimensioning a Metric Architectural Drawing. Thanks in advance PRSS Quote
ReMark Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I agree with Richard I (cgarchitect.com) that the standard would be millimeters in Europe and the Commonwealth. Quote
eldon Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Most Architects that I have dealt with use mm, but I was not aware of any binding standards. If, when looking at a drawing, one saw a single door width dimensioned as 0.9 or 90 or 900, I am sure that the drawing user would be able to tell the difference in units. Quote
PRSS Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to make sure that this was true. Hence posting in several forums the same question !!! With best regards PRSS Quote
eldon Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 If there are local standards, then you should always try to keep to them. Is does not matter whether they are right or wrong, "the client knows best" Quote
PRSS Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Yes, agreed Eldon. Best regards PRSS Quote
Organic Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 But here in my country, the state govt. standard for submitting drawings for approval is in Meters. Use metres then as you don't really have a choice. Quote
stevsmith Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Why don't you phone the state govt. and ask if they do accept (mm) as an alternative to (m)? Quote
PRSS Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Thank you all for the replies With best regards PRSS Quote
