How to import Inventor (.IAM) models into MEP

Recommended Posts

Posted

I need to import a pump model from a vendor into a model I've created in MEP 2011. I tried to open the .IAM file in AutoCAD 2013 using the Import function however I keep getting an error which says "The specified file is invalid or unsupported".

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have posted your question in the 3D Studio Max section. I have moved your thread to the Autocad 3D Modeling section.

If you upload the pump model, maybe someone can take a look and convert it for you.

What version of Inventor file? (cannot open a 2014 version file in AutoCAD 2013)

Also, you will need the Inventor *.ipt (part) files that go along with the *.iam (assembly) file. The assembly file is only a list of hyperlinks and instructions (for AutoCAD) on how to assembly the parts.

Can you zip and attach the files here?

Do you have access to Inventor?
