Pipe Design Tutorial

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I'm looking for a basic pipe design/layout tutorial. I have a basic understanding of AutoCAD and I'm looking to improve the quality of my DWG's I'm looking for a basic tutorial to show me how to do a pipe layout, how AutoCAD should be set up, and what looks good. I plan on creating a database of different pipe fittings and valves. Could anyone please help me get on my way with this task. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Regards,

Johnny13

Welcome to the CADTutor forum.

Were you aware that 2D and 3D pipe fittings and, in some cases, even valves can either be downloaded for free or purchased as "block libraries"?

Or can can purchase an add-on program such as PipeFitPro ($245 U.S. for basic edition, $495 U.S. for full edition). http://www.pipefitpro.com/pipefitpro/

Are you a student by any chance?

I think you would benefit from using a program like AutoCAD MEP.

Hey ReMark,

Yes I'm currently getting my degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning the AutoCAD is a side project that will come in handy, I'm currently running AutoCAD MEP 2009.

I'm assuming I should just google block libraries for the pipe fittings.

I would have thought that MEP comes with some of that already built in.

Yeah I'm finding more as I browse the web and I'm getting a greater appreciation for what I need to be doing, currently trying to find the title block template in my program...

Which units will you be using? Metric or Imperial?

Metric, working in isometric mode with very basic lines to display elbows, tee and other fittings plus different valves and such.

These three with the red marks after them are metric. Open a new drawing and select the last one as your template. It has a title block and border.
