Templates with custom library styles?

Recommended Posts

Ok so i spent the last 10.5 at work trying to set templates for the office to be used in inventor. Title blocks and borders, no worries, page layouts etc no problems.

Then comes styles... argh! all day i worked on trying to have our own standard style to use and in the end i think i got it but still needs fine tuning. So anyway onto the problem.

How do you purge styles? and i mean completely remove a document style.

This has been my procedure.

Create template standard.idw by using ISO standard. Create new library style using a copy of ISO standard as base. Problem was after changing the ISO template document styles and having a library copy of ISO standard i now had 2 standard styles in the library. My standard style "standard (AS)" and the ISO standard. I couldnt purge either of them, even thogh the document was just a blank sheet with no borde/title block. So started again.

Create new BLANK style library. set new project with template location, style library etc. Copy ISO standard to use as template. Open template, go through style editor and simply rename all references to ISO standard to standard (AS) plus make changes like dim styles etc. So now i have one .idw template with one document style "standard (AS)" which is the saved to library.

Change project so library is read only. Now everything by this stage is pretty much set. I want this clean tho, at any time i only want my one standard (AS) style for any document using this style/project template etc. But i found this isnt true. If say some1 with different style sent me a drawing and i was trying to convert their style to mine i would then end up with 2 styles. One in the document and mine in the library.

My process was to open their document using my template, go into style editor and replace their object style with mine. Therfor changing all their dims etc to my style. But now in the style editor i had mine and theirs. I did not have the option to purge their style? What am i missing?

I know its alot to read, my mind has been spinning around this all day. Basically it sums to how do you completely purge a style from the library or document in use?
