Gregstah Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Hi, I ask your advice and patience... I'm a total cad newbee who has just bought a 3d printer... rather than download arbitrary items from thingieverse I'm trying to teach myself Solidworks. As I'm a photographer I'm trying to create a honeycomb flash modifier... I have created the lattice (this is not the final but a practice run) as shown in the JPG... try as I may I can't extrude the "blue" area... I can select anything but... So really the question is why can't I select the between lines as a "face" ... hope this makes sense... The other file was very poorly done in blender but gives you an idea of what I'm trying to achieve... I know the error is definitely mine but I can't seem to make out what I'm doing wrong... PS: I've managed to get it right but don't know why one works and another one doesn't... Quote
JD Mather Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Attach the *.sldprt file here. In general, you should (almost) always pattern features rather than sketch entities. Quote
Gregstah Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Honeycomb.zip Attach the *.sldprt file here.In general, you should (almost) always pattern features rather than sketch entities. I've attached the file.... I have been using "Sketch Pattern" and realised that if I do a ctrl-A it seems to work on smaller lattices but for some reason always seems to fail when I have a lattice with more detail... again I know it's my lack of knowledge causing the problem. G PS: 7550 posts since 2007.... that's nuts! Thank you for your time. Quote
Gregstah Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 It seems that as soon as I run the pattern above a certain count the extrusion options either fail or stop working... see the image below Quote
JD Mather Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I don't have 2014 - so I can't open your file, but it is unclear to me what you are doing. Can you edit your sketch and post screen capture of that? You should have a cylinder extrusion. Then a sketch with one hex that you extrude cut. Pattern the Extrude cut (not the hex sketch) Extrude - cut all outside the circle from the cylinder extrusion. Extrude the cylindrical ring. Quote
ILoveMadoka Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Have you tried a Fill Pattern? Solidworks will make the pattern work with the parameters you supply... Quote
