Exporting Image From Autocad 2012

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows if the following is possible. I've got a dodgy Google Earth screenshot that I've chucked into CAD to scale it (approximately) and more importantly align it to the correct coordinate system as per the survey. However, I need to use that image in another modelling program (which only accepts image files).

Question is - is it possible to export just an image from Autocad back to an image file? I obviously don't want to plot the entire drawing to PDF/BMP or anything, simply extract the image that I have resized. Or does anyone have any ideas on another way of getting an image from Google Maps or the like and scaling it correctly?

Many thanks in advance.

Can't you just cut and paste between the two programs?

Scaling screen shots from Google earth is never exact, but to give a good approximation, make sure the Scale Legend is showing.

This is found on the Google earth's View menu.

Looks like Plexscape might be a solution. Seem that they have a trial version so if you just need a one time thing this might work for you. I have not used it but I did find reference to this on the AutoDesk user forum.

Good luck :)

If you took a screen shot, then it is already an image. Did you try a copy & paste as suggested?

Can't seem to copy and paste unfortunately. To clarify, I've taken a screenshot from Google and inserted the image into ACAD and just used ALIGN command to roughly line it up and scale it in doing so. Then that image is approximately aligned with my coordinate system. I'm then trying to import that background image into XPStorm - the interface for inserting images in XPStorm is very basic. I can insert an image with a basepoint (it's on the same coordinate system as my CAD drawing) but I want to insert the actual image that I've scaled in CAD. I assume it's not actually possible as copying and pasting from program to program is probably the only way to do it which doesn't work.

Unless anyone else knows a more effective way of scaling and inserting an image into XPStorm (for those familiar with it).

^ Plexscape did the trick. Fantastic program and would highly recommend it. I've only used the 14 day trial version but definitely looks like a handy bit of software. Cheers!
