ALoock Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Hi everyone. I am also fairly new and have picked up a few things as I started using AutoCad. I will however ask them one at a time: why is it that sometimes when I select an object and righ click to choose 'move', the object dissapears. It is just confusing to me as this does not always happen. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance! Quote

Sometimes this happens when selecting menu items very quickly Quote
jkristia Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 If you have selected an object and one of the grips are hot (turned red instead of blue) then you can type 'mo' and it will take you in to the move command, or 'mi' and it will take you into the mirror command. I know it didn't answer the question, but it might be helpful to know this shortcut. This also works if multiple objects are selected and one of the grips is hot. What I find weird though, is that 'c' (copy) only works on the selected object, unlike 'mo' and 'mi'. Quote
Tiger Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I'll hazard a guess, because this happens to me from time to time. When I select the object, type in M (for Move, or C for Copy or and so on) and just click randomly AutoCAD finds a OSnap somewhere way off screen and picks that one up. But since I have my mouse where it is the object I'm trying to move is immidiatly moved offscreen so that the base point is at my mouse. Does it make sense? If this is indeeed what happens to you, then the object should show up wif you zoom out while the Move command is active. Quote
wannabe Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I'll go with the notion that your hitting erase and not move. I personally do it all the time. Quote
Strix Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 are you always using the same work station? right click can be set to a number of different functions, one of which is 'repeat last command', so you could be selecting an object and applying ERASE to it inadvertently Somebody remind me what variable needs setting for this? is it PICKFIRST? Tiger Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 A good tip would be to look at your commandline, keep it two or three lines high and see what you've actually done when things seem to disappear. The commandline is your best friend Quote
Strix Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 or press F2 to look back if you prefer to keep your command line to a minimum Quote
dbroada Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 what's a command line? I don't have one (love dynamic input) so I use F2 a LOT. Quote
Commit Accel Dream Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 what's a command line? I don't have one (love dynamic input) so I use F2 a LOT. +1 for dynamic input. If this is indeeed what happens to you, then the object should show up wif you zoom out while the Move command is active. This is a good possiblity. CAD could be using some way off snap point or a base point away from your drawing. Although Erase is the next command above Move on the right click menu. It is possible you are erasing instead. I would go with the suggestions of trying the shortcut, M or MO for move. Quote
ALoock Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Thanks to everyone! I actually tested it again and it seems the object snapped to some point way off my drawing area and with zoom I picked it up. I will also be cautions not to hit the erase button by mistake, thanks for the advice! Quote
