How to measure odd shapes

Thanks, I'll try the photo with catch and see what comes of it.

draw a polyline > properties > lenght?

Yep, I understand how to enter the properties so my drawing matches what I enter. What I can't figure out is how you measure a curve/bend in the first place. If it was a hard angle, I could use a protractor, determine the angle and enter the dimensions and angle and it would be done. But when there is a more organic bend to something, how would you obtain the measurements to accurately reproduce it? I'm going to try the photo method. But I suspect that I will have a lot of trial and error in getting something to fit and match the curve.

You establish a straight edge away from the shape then measure perpendicular from the straight edge to the edge of the curve. Do that, say, every 1/2" and you will have points that you connect to duplicate the curve in one plane.

So not an CAD-question then

No worries mate, I just didn't read your question the way you intended

Makes sense. I'll give it a shot. Thanks
