imadomo Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) i dont want hallow.dwgHi guys, I'm new to Autocad and i'm stuck in finding references on how to convert all those drawing lines recognised as a solid 2d face. For example, i draw a rectangle with another rectangle inside, drawing two lines crossing the face of those rectangle shaped like an X from the outer side. The inner centre of the box must be hallow, so erasing using trim which leaves section for extrusion. As i tried to extrude, it doesn't recognized as a solid shape, except i can only extrude the line. Any advice and steps to overcome this? Edit: see my jpeg as an example, i dont want hallow i want it to be a whole solid. I've also used trim function when doing this and line tangent. I'm surprised that my lecturer doesn't even know how to fix this. Edited February 14, 2014 by imadomo Quote
ReMark Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Yes. Attach a copy of the drawing to your next post. Someone will take a look at it. Sounds like either you are using the wrong commands to achieve your goal or your geometry isn't exactly what you think it is. Seeing your drawing will clear that up immediately. Quote
Dadgad Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Welcome to CADTutor. Try using the PRESSPULL command. Quote
ReMark Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 When you extrude a line you get a surface. I'm assuming you want to create solids. Is that correct? The PRESSPULL command and its enhancements are covered in your AutoCAD Help file. Press F1 to start Help and search on PressPull. Quote
imadomo Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 ah yes, would this clear things up through my jpeg i just edited? It extrude it as an hallow shape not a full solid shape i wanted. And yes, its not a rectangular as that is only an example, what i was trying say is that the lines are not recognised as being joined, even though it looks like its being joined. This was done using drawing line tangent to join two eclipse, and trimming was to trim half of the shape and to get a curvature. Quote
ReMark Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I suspect you may have some gaps in your geometry. A copy of the drawing was requested. Want to try again? Quote
imadomo Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 Thanks, i'm aware of Geometry problem but how do i fix this? it always happens whenever i trim a line tangent to a circle. I would expect the line would join, but it just recognised as two separate pieces. Also the .dwg (2007) is up, and oddly is doesn't see it as attachment, rather its highlighted with my text? can anyone open that? Quote
ReMark Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 You fix the problem by either finding it (zoom in close to where you expect the problem occurs) or you redo the geometry. Since you don't want to share the task falls to you. Simple. Quote
JD Mather Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Presspull, not extrude. Oops, never mind - it looks like you are entering a taper angle, in which case you will need to Extrude, but first - Polyline edit with join option to join trimmed geometry in 2007. (are you using a spline in that profile?) There is a r2007 tutorial link in my signature. Quote
