SB-cad Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Hi all. (Please forgive me if this is not the correct category...) I recently brought in a site plan file from a civil engineer (as a block) to check some items. In doing so, it added tons of linetypes (shapes?). After checking what I needed, I deleted the block, continued working on the file, saved. Now, when I open the file, it asks for .shx files that I do not have, nor do I want in my previously clean files. In attempting to figure out how to fix this, I saved one of my clean files as a test file, then copy/pasted (1) line from the "corrupted" file (one of MY lines) to the test file. Doing so brings in all of the crap that I do not want. Now, to the obvious question ... how do I purge this linetype/shape info from my file? In case it makes a difference, my AutoCAD version is: "Autodesk Building Design Suite Premium 2013". Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Do you know if the original site plan was created in Microstation? The program is notorious for its overabundance of linetypes when content is used from it in AutoCAD. AutoDesk even went as far as to issue a hot fix for 2013 and another for 2013/2014 DWG files. SB-cad Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 No ... I do not. If it helps to solve the problem, I can find out. Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Can you attach a sample drawing for us to play with? Quote
SB-cad Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Sure. Here is the base file I was working on, with all my actual plan data removed, and the file purged ... which still asks for the .shx file when opened... sample01.dwg Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I see AutoCAD looking for four .SHX files. Is that what you see? OK....I think I got rid of everything with one exception. Ltypeshp.shx is a text font and not a shape file. My version of AutoCAD has the font. Now if you'll bear with me I have an experiment to run. Stay right there....I'll be back. Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Here's your file back. Test it and tell me what happens. sample01_X.dwg Quote
SB-cad Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) That solves the .shx problem ... the file opens without the error! On a related note ... All of the linetypes that came in with that civil file are still there. If you notice, there is a huge list of linetypes ... almost all of them are from the civil file. Is there a way to get rid of those too? Should I post another topic for this question? [Edit] ...Also, if I copy/paste a line from your cleaned-up file to my clean test file, it brings in all of the linetypes. Edited February 21, 2014 by SB-cad Forgot to finish my thought Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I'm pretty sure you will need to download the hot fix I mentioned previously as those linetypes are from Microstation. Even one of the SHX files was named dgnlstyle-tsaec.shx (the DGN is a reference to the file type Microstation saves to). A link for you..... http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-raster-design/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autocad-C2-AE-dgn-hotfix.html Check out the Readme file too. Quote
SB-cad Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Ok. I'll try that. Is the hot fix what you used to clean the .shx problem ... so I can fix my project file? Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 No, it is not. I used a custom lisp routine I literally stumbled across by accident while trying to help someone else with a different problem. Sometimes my Internet searches turn up the strangest things. Quote
SB-cad Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) The HotFix works!!! It fixes both the .shx problem and the linetypes problem! It took a couple of tries to get it to install ... but then it worked great! You are AWESOME!!! Thank you so much!!! Edited February 21, 2014 by SB-cad spelling error Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Please....this is a "no gushing" zone. Over excitement will be dealt with harshly (bucket of ice/water). I did not program the hot fix so I can take no credit for that. All I did is give you my best opinion based upon what I saw in your file and point you in the most probable direction. You did the rest. You're entirely welcomed. Now that you are the "go to guy" in the office ask for a raise. You can buy me a beer when you get your first check. Regards, ReMark Quote
SB-cad Posted February 21, 2014 Author Posted February 21, 2014 Ok. Sounds great. I will. (Notice that I have calmed down on the excitement thing) Quote
ReMark Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Joplin, MO? I'll be somewhat in your vicinity perhaps in early July when I visit Eureka Springs, AR. It's in the northwest corner of the state. We can meet for that beer then. Quote
