p0peye Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Hi all, If one wants to change the viepoint with comands from "view" toolbar or with _-view _top command (for example top) every time the view is changed the model zooms out to model limits. If one use the navcube the same happens. I am not sure how you people are working with this method - I tried a few times and often I can't find the object I was looking at before zooming out. However - if I use the navcube, but the object(s) is/are preselected - the view gets rotated right way, but it zooms out to the limits of the object(s) preselected. Unfortunately, when you click the cube to change view, the command is not written in command history, so I don't know what to put in LISP to assign shortcut to that command. Is there a way to find out what command is used when clicking on navcube to change viewpoints? Thanks in advance Quote
ReMark Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 You assume everyone uses the Navvcube and everyone, except you, likes the way it works. I don't like the Navvcube and it is one of the things I turn off immediately with each new release along with the Navvbar. You could instead use model space viewports and/or saved views. Quote
p0peye Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Hi ReMark, thanks for your RePlay (play with words ) Model space view-ports and saved views are the first thing I turn off when I start using AutoCad... (a joke ) Take a look at my first post - I was even polite and mentioned the "other" method first (commands, toolbar...) But never mind the trifles (I had to use the translate to find the word, so I have to make it clear: it wasn't meant to be offensive - just wanted to stop wasting our time - in a polite way ) - how do you pick an object in a gravel from the 3d view and then zoom in on it and display it in 2d? Kidding aside, I rarely use the view-ports due to the nature of my job. Please take a look at the attached picture of the model, in advance steel I use "model views", defined in respect to the model axes (something like cuts with defined LxWxH arround the Axe). That is ok, but when the model grow big - it takes time to turn it of and on al the time... Anyway, I am not sure how your suggestion could help me with my problem: I would like to select the part, and align the view with that part without zooming out. My model has literally 100's of 1000's of parts, so I can't see the benefit of view-ports. (see the picture attached: approx. 250m long, weights 150T) The method I am using: - I work in wire-frame display mode most of the time; - I work in 3d mode often, to be able to see and pick the object of interest - but, when I pick the element, often I have to modify it in 2d view. Few minutes ago I tried the view-ports again, and I can't find them more useful then before: I have 3d view left, TOP view in the top right corner, and front view below. Now, when I work in the 3d view, and go for example from axe 1 to axe 32 to copy some object or similar, when I select it, the other two view-ports are still dispalying axe 1. Is there a way to "lock" the viewports so the other two are "following" the first one? Do you have any other suggestion - maybe I am not doing it right? Thanks again for your time and knowledge (I have seen just a fraction but it was enough to realize that you are a man with a knowledge not selfish to share it.) p.s. - I have been snooping around the forum (and on web) before I asked the question, and I saw your attitude about the NC earlier, so it wasn't a surprise for me when I read your reply p.p.s. - by the age of... My age I have learned not to assume anything. I was just clumsy and tired and exhausted when I wrote my first post, and as English is not my native language, it may have sounded as I was assuming what I was not. If you understand what I mean.
