rlshound Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Hello All, I am working on a drainage study and have surveyed 3 areas of one large site. I've created 3 separate models in C3D 2012. Knowing that the engineer would possibly want to combine these at some time I kept track of my point numbering. I would like to combine the surface models into one overall model without having to go back and enter all the breaklines, point groups etc.... Can someone please advise a good way to do this and what to look out for? As Always Your help would be appreciated. Thank You. rlshound Quote
BlackBox Posted March 20, 2014 Posted March 20, 2014 Have you tried creating a new, empty surface in your model, and then paste each of the existing surfaces into your new surface? Toolspace, Prospector tab, Surfaces node, node, Definition node, right click Edits node, and select Paste Surface... from the context menu. Cheers Quote
rlshound Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Hello BlackBox, Thanks for getting back to me. I tried it....I guess a better question and more illustration would be.....I built the 3 models mentioned above in separate drawings...Is there a way to import the surfaces into the current drawing then use your method to paste? I'm sorry that I was not clear enough earlier. Thanks Again, rlshound Quote
BlackBox Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 No worries; give the LANDXMLOUT and LANDXMLIN Commands a try, then revisit the steps above. Note that Styles are not included with LandXML data, so you may need to import the applicable styles from another drawing... Manage RibbonTab, far right RibbonPanel if memory serves. Quote
BIGAL Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 You may be able to landxmlout & in only keep the final surface in a new dwg without the other 3. Quote
feargt Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Have you considered using Data shortcuts? You can make a new dgm where you insert the 3 surfaces that you have already made. You can make this in an empty drawing, reference in the 3 surfaces using "no display " as the style and then insert them into your new surface. You can modify the original surfaces if required at any stage and then your new combined surface just needs to be synchronised. Quote
rlshound Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Morning BlackBox, It worked using LANDXMLOUT and LANDXMLIN then pasting....experimenting with it now. Any suggestions on marrying the surfaces together...they should update upon pasting? Thanks Again, rlshound Quote
rlshound Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Thanks BIGAL, I'm experimenting with it now....its awesome when you see something else this can do, Thanks Again, rlshound Quote
rlshound Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Hello feargt, Thanks for getting back to me....looking at Data shortcuts now. Can you please briefly explain "needs to be synchronised" ? rlshound Quote
JerryG Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 You can also just copy the surface - go into the new drawing and hit Paste. Its treated just like any other object. Once you've got all three surfaces in one drawing do what BlackBox was suggesting and create a new surface then paste each surface into the new surface. Be sure and select a "All off" style for the old surfaces once you create a new surface. Quote
feargt Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Hello feargt, Thanks for getting back to me....looking at Data shortcuts now. Can you please briefly explain "needs to be synchronised" ? rlshound if you need to modify any of the 3 original surfaces then you will need to update your new combined surface that you created through data shortcuts. If you have both drawings open when you make the changes, in order to see them in the new combined surface you need to synchronise the data shortcuts. (similar to reloading an xref). Right click on the surface that you referenced in through use of data shortcuts and select "synchronise". This will update the new surface to reflect changes made in one of the referenced surfaces. hope that helps. sorry for the delay, was on vacation. Quote
