yellowplanet Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Hi there, I've only recently upgraded to AutoCAD 2008 and have been looking at changing some of the blocks I use to dynamic ones. Hopefully the attachment has worked - (this is my first posting on here). I was wondering whether it's possible to have a block that starts off looking like the one in "position 1" and then if rotated 90 degrees ends up looking like "position 2". I'm not sure if this is going to be possible seeing as so many things need to move at the same time. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, YP dm01.dwg Quote
GhostRider Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I don't know if it is completly possible to make all the changes in one click but I think it definatly could be done with rotation and move parameters, one simple way would be to use Visibility states, but then I think the attributes would have to be filled in for both states,... I'm still learning about Dynamic blockss also, so not an expert but I think you could get it close to what you want Dbroada seems to have a great understaning of dynamic block capabilities, maybe he will be by to give a suggestion Quote
yellowplanet Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Yes, I'm looking at Visibility States at the moment but can't get it to show the attributes in the different positions. I must be doing something wrong. I'm trying to follow a tutorial but they're never quite what you want so you have to make a few assumptions. Quote
dbroada Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 attributes and visibility states are not happy bedfellows. I haven't looked at your block yet and will be away for the next few days so I'll see how far you've got trying when I get back. Quote
dbroada Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 OK, I have had a look and have to say that several of us on here have tried to find a solution using visibility states to get what you are after - without success. If you have to reposition your attributes I would look at putting a rotation on the "arrow head" and chain that to several move actions. To get your attributes to move YOU MUST "lock" their position. yellowplanet Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks for the reply. I don't suppose anyone here knows of any decent tutorials I can download or look at? I'm starting to get frustrated with this and will probably end up giving in rather than breaking something. Quote
dbroada Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 no tutorials - just trial and error and peer group learning. I haven't got the location right yet but using a lookup table gives you this... dm01-1.dwg Quote
yellowplanet Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 How annoying! I've been waiting for ages to get this upgrade to 2008, one of the reasons being I could start making and using dynamic blocks. Now it ends up that Autodesk haven't quite delivered and what you'd think would be a basic requirement is impossible to do. Times like this make me wonder why I'm so loyal to AutoCAD (having used it for the past 20 years) and maybe I should bite the bullet and start using something different. Sorry to rant. I need another coffee! Quote
