I had to reinstall AutoCad 2014 after the reinstall when I save a drawing the it no longer shows the drawing as an icon only the dwg icon.

I have gone into tools and checked the thumbnail settings, reset my proflie, checked the windows folder settings and also checked if the reg key (d-word was set to 1). Explorer also shows only the Icon. The preview window does show the preview.

Note only newly saved files shows only the icon.

That problem sounds familiar as I too have had it happen. Turned out to be a setting in the Windows Registry. Funny thing is I can reset it but if I open AutoCAD 2012 (I'm using 2014) the setting seems to get messed up and they aren't even similar release numbers. There's a link around here somewhere re: changing the Registry as I just posted one myself maybe a week or two ago (as I recollect). If interested I can try and find it.

Then there is this from CAD Panacea.....http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?82173-AutoCAD-thumbnail-preview-not-working&highlight=dword

This is the Registry setting that has to be changed. If 2013 is also loaded on your computer change the setting for that as well as 2014.

KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R19.1\ACAD-B001:409\Profiles\your profile\Dialogs\Select File - PreviewVisible = 1

2013 is release R19.0 by the way (I think).

Yes Thank you for you quick post the "KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R19.1\ACAD-B001:409\Profiles\your profile\Dialogs\Select File - PreviewVisible = 1" works for the preview window and that is the same as the link you gave above.

it in the Icons not showing the drawings Thumbnail.

If can find anything else I would be in your debit.

Thanks

OK....we're talking AutoCAD right? So when you open a drawing in the top right hand corner of the dialog box it says Views and if you click on the down pointing arrow there are three options: List, Details and Thumbnails. Which one do you have enabled? I have Details. Not that it should matter though since AutoCAD should still give you a Preview of the drawing below.

By any chance did you reassociate AutoCAD 2014 with the DWG file type? Maybe that's the problem; maybe you didn't?

YES I did try to reassociate. and as you can see in the pic below the red arrow is what I get after I save a drawing and the green arrow is what the others look like. This being the case the options: List, Details and Thumbnails is set correctly (although I did try other settings).

I know it seems that all the fixes I have found refers to the preview windows. I have looked for the past 3 days not doing one drawing to see if I could find the answer. No luck.

I has really got me confused about what I thought I knew about AutoCad and Windows. I have also posted on AutoDesk with No replies.

I do thank you for your time and efforts.

Did you try resetting your Profile?

Are there other versions of AutoCAD on your computer?

No just the AutoCad 2014

Hay ReMark I got it. OR should I say you got it some of it.

Another AutoCad Forum said to associate the dwg files to any other program then reassociate it to the AutoCad again and it worked.

Another mystery solved. Glad to hear it and thanks for sharing the solution with us.
