Vagulus Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I am a bit tight for space on 'C' drive but I have tons of room on 'E'. I tried installing Inventor Student Edition on 'E' but the installer put a large amount of the program on 'C' anyway. Is there any way I can install the application only on 'E' Drive? Quote

Lazer Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 A large chunk of the files will need to be installed on the C:drive for it to install correctly, I would suggest you move as much as you can over to the E drive (movies, photos etc) to free up the C drive space. Quote

JD Mather Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I don't think you need anything at C:\Autodesk This is commonly where the download install files are automatically extracted to. (think of these like a removable DVD) You can move them to anywhere you want. (in fact I recommend that you burn a back-up as the download process takes a long time if you ever have to repeat) Start the setup.exe and the program will be (must be) installed to C:\Programs Files\Autodesk and a couple of other locations. I see a lot of people with the "program" on their machines 3 times. 1. The compressed download 2. The extracted install files 3. The installed program files. 1 and 2 are not required on the boot disk. Quote

Folder containing the install files (this is essentially the same as a DVD) can be anywhere - but typically default extraction to C:\Autodesk These can be deleted after installation complete. The actual required files C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2014 So the actual install is less than 4 Gig. (without Content Center) This is for Inventor Professional - you size might be different. I could understand if AutoDesk said the installation files had to be located on C:\ drive but the program files too? Still seems odd. Quote

Bishop Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Yes, you can install Inventor to a location other than your boot drive. It will not, however, install EVERYTHING to that other drive. There are certain components and files that will always be installed to the boot drive. Quote
