Hi All

 

am looking for a book that details CAD standards, layer naming and colours ect.

 

is there a "bible" for this sort of stuff??

yes, i could have provided a bit more information

 

im based in the UK and my line of work is in the space planning/constrctuction sector.

 

will investigate BS8888

The U.K. has a number of standards but unfortunately to see them you'll have to buy a copy unless you know someone who will share their copy with you.

 

I used to have a copy of BS8888 but can't recall exactly where it might be. I'll have to look around and see if I still have it.

I googled BS8888, and was looking at a copy on the web, all 100 pages of it, but is was dated 2011.

Maybe out-of-date versions are free?

The latest version of BS8888 is 2013. Not much changed. The 2011 version is a good start.

 

However, BS8888 is only the guide to all the standards, of which there are many!

 

If you are on AEC you might find the UK AEC BIM standard helpful.
