Openantics Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 i inserted several blocks, and using the laymch command, moved them to the desired layer, however, if i turn that layer off, the blocks are also associated with another layer, so I need to turn off 2 layers to remove the blocks from model space. how do learn what layer a block is associated with? thanks Quote
nestly Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 The objects inside a block should typically be on Layer0... if they're not, then those objects remain visible even when the layer the block is on is turned OFF. If you have Express Tools installed, the XLIST command will give you the Layer, Color, & Linetype of individual objects inside a block, otherwise you'll have to open the block with the Block Editor to find the individual object properties. Two solutions 1) Change the objects inside the block to Layer0 and BYLAYER, so the entire block is controlled by the layer on which it resides. 2) FREEZE the Layer instead of turning it "OFF" (actually I always "Freeze" Layers... I've probably not used "OFF" for several years except for testing purposes) Attach a sample drawing if you still have trouble. Quote
Openantics Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 that was it. so the objects in the block were on another layer, and once i moved them to the layer i desired in block editor, voila. the reason i need to turn off the blocks, is to print PDF plots with different elements showing. ill research more about the benefits about Freeze vs Off/ON Quote

Ski_Me Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 What about dynamic blocks? Would they still behave the same if all their parts were on the same layer? Quote
nestly Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I can't think of an instance where there's be an advantage or a disadvantage of using Layers inside a dynamic block that wouldn't apply the same way to regular block. Did you have something specific in mind? Quote
