You have a lot of work to do go get that modeled correctly.

I'll be back in a while.

Tangent.png

Isn't this dimension 14mm on the original? No tangent on arc.

Extraneous dimensions.jpg

I don't see these dimensions on the original?

Why do extra work if it isn't needed?

Symmetry is obvious.PNG

There is obvious symmetry in the part - yet you have the origin at a corner?

I recommend that you set this aside for a while and go through these

Extra work.PNG

More extra work.

Chamfers do not require sketches.

9mm.PNG

Two of the holes are supposed to be 9mm, not 8mm.

Tomorrow I will attach my solution.

My solution.

Sketch1.png

Sketch1 has 7 dimensions and no Tangent constraint.

Sketch2.PNG

Sketch2 has 4 dimensions and not location of origin for symmetry.

Sketch3.PNG

Sketch3 has 3 dimensions.

Thanks JD

As always your construction of the model is much more simple, but there is one thing I cannot understand. How did you get Sketch 2 fully constrained without a vertical dimension for the rectangles? Constraining the rectangles was the reason for all the extra dimensions in my equivalent sketch.

Please remember the original question.

This is the problem as set:

How do I create the dimensioning instructions including the circle as shown in my drawing?

Thanks folks

I managed to create the model now I am creating a drawing from it and I cannot figure out how to dimension it as shown.

Thanks

Project Geometry from previous sketches (preferred) or from solid geometry if no sketch geometry to project.

As for the original question, in this example takes some tricks that I do not have time to explain in a way that can be easily understood.

There is no corresponding dimension in Sketch 1 to be projected to Sketch 2.

If that dimensioning problem is tricky for you, I guess I'll have to wait 20yrs or so.

You should be able to start from scratch and exactly reproduce my steps.

Post back with any step you have trouble accomplishing.

How again do you make the 3d model from the three 2d sketches?

The 2D sketches are the basis for extrusions and holes.

Extrude Sketch 1 106mm to get the block.

Cut the profiles in Sketch 2 all the way to get the fingers.

Etc. ...

I got this far then stalled. I am trying to use Pattern --> Rectangular to position the other two holes but I cannot select the existing holes.

You will note that I positioned the circle on the back face of the fingers as shown in the original exercise. Is this the key to being able to use it in a drawing?

Why is your first extrusion not mid-plane.

Your file is nothing like the example I attached.

1. Mea Culpa. Regarding why not mid-plane in Sketch 1. I missed that one. Yes, that eliminates the step of centring in Sketch 2. I'll keep that one in mind.

2. I had the circle diameter at 21mm for some reason. I reset it to 32 and things look a bit more alike now.

3. This morning the Rectangular tool worked properly. That might be the update I just installed - http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/downloads/caas/downloads/content/update-1-for-inventor-2015.html

Thanks
