Quik&Easy Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Attached are 2 files showing my problem. The linear dimensions plot to PDF just fine using the PDF converter in my plotting options (using ACAD LT 2011) but I get an error message from Adobe when opening the PDF, can't find font ArialMT. I've looked at the fonts in both ACAD and Windows and on my machine, neither location lists that font. Where is it coming from?I believe its the degree symbol that is goofing me up. Perhaps there is a setting in the dimension style that I'm missing? I'm pretty basic in my CAD use so I don't think I've changed a setting. I try to use default everything to minimize my issues. I have the same issues with other drawings and the angular dimension not printing. Notes made on leaders (even tried various fonts there) print fine as well, angles are the problem. I'm not tied to any particular font but want simple, easy to read letters and numerals. Can I change the font of the the numerals on the angle notations? Can I leave off the degree symbol to see if it solves the problem? Thanks! Ken herrera plates.dwg herrera plates-Model.pdf Quote
Tiger Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 This is a hard one, because I don't see anything wrong with it... I can see all the text, arrows and lines in both files... You can change the fonts on the dimensions in the Dimension Style Manager Quote
ReMark Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Please test plot the attached PDF and report back the results. herrera plates-test.pdf I used the AutoCAD default DWG TO PDF.pc3; I also got the error message regarding the ArialMT font. Dana W Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 So far, it's a total mystery to me as well. I see the angular dimensions on both the pdf and on the drawing, the plot preview, and hard copy plot. I also do not have the Arial MT font on my system. Check AutoDesk's website and see if there are any service packs for your program that has not been installed. You mentioned a pdf converter, what is it? One other thing. Most AutoCad users prefer the black background in modelspace, so sharing your drawings with others may be problematic if you use color 250 for anything at all. There is color white (7) that shows up white on a dark background, and black on a light background. Use that instead. Quote
Quik&Easy Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 ReMark, your file printed fine. Tiger, I should clarify that the DWG looks fine and plots fine; its the PDF that has the problem. Do you happen to have the ArielMT font in the ACAD font library or in your Window's library? I don't see it in either place on my computer. Not sure why its defaulting to that font on the conversion. Quik&Easy Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Dana, under the plot option: printer/plotter-dwg to PDF.pc3 is what I'm using to convert. Seems to work fine for all my needs; I know others hate it but it suffices for me. Quote

When's the last time you updated adobe reader. The newest version is very good, and it may straighten you up. Quote

Quik&Easy Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Currently using Adobe 9.5.5, just checked and no updates available. I'm guessing if I purchased Adobe Acrobat I might have some other abilities not available in the free version. Quote
Quik&Easy Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Thanks to Dana, looks like there are 2 updates to my version that I need to install; the 1.1 update address this very problem along with a bunch of other stuff. Quote
Spaj Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I tried the AutoCAD2012 DWG to PDF plot driver and it looked OK. One difference between your PDF and mine was the ArialMT font was embedded in the PDF (ditto ReMark's), look in your PDF document properties under fonts. Suggest you try setting your PDF plot driver to capture all fonts. Goto plot/properties/custom properties and then the custom properties button. Mine is currently set to capture some but try capture all and see if this makes a difference. Quote
Quik&Easy Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 Spaj, that worked like a charm! I made the change and it shows up correctly and plots correctly. Opened some of the other drawings I had trouble with and it solved it there as well so I saved the change rather than changing it as I make them. I think I'll still update once I find the original media disc.......it seems to have found a good place to hide. Quote

The reader updates are always free. Of course I guess it depends on your OS. Maybe nothing above version 10 works with yours. Quote

Just as a word of advice. Each version of AutoCad seems to have at least 2, and sometimes 3 service pack updates come out at between 2 to 6 months intervals for the first couple of years. It pays to check once a month or so. Quote

Just go to Autodesk dot com and download them. Quote

Quik&Easy Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 According to the Autodesk update page that I read, I have to install 1.1 before I install the #2 update. There appeared to be separate ones for the full versions and the LT versions. They also specified that the media MAY be needed so I'd like to have it on hand before starting the process. Quote

There must have been a couple of very separate issues for them to deal with. You will need to do it their way, of course. I'll bet you a weeks salary though, that when/if sp3 comes out, 1 and 2 will be wrapped inside it. Quote
