Xref manager problem

can anyone advise. I not had this problem before with inserting xrefs

I have opened a drawing to insert new xref, ti have done usual method of adding new xref in xref manager dialogue box. the new xref has inserted in ok. I have deleted old one.

however the new xref does not show up in the dialogue box, only the old one, which will not let me delete it

I don't understand why. any help? much appreciated

I need your terminology clarified. Did you mean detach the old one when you said delete?

 

It sounds like you have the correct XREF but only the name is the same as the old one? Check the properties of the new one and verify that please.

If you have an updated XREF, there is no need to delete the old one, nor to add in via the xref dialog box.

The XREF will take care of itself the next time you OPEN it, automagically.

That is the whole idea of XREFS, they are meant to make things easier and files lighter.

Yeah, updating an XREF and replacing one should not be confused. Actually, if all you are doing is updating a pre-existing one, just save the updated file over the old one and it will automatically update with a reload or the next time you open the referencing file. There is no need to insert/redefine an update. That is for blocks, Dadgad.

Good point Rob, I was shagged when I posted that, as I was still working very late. I didn't even bother to reread it, although I

knew that I should have, as I posted it on the fly.
