Hi all,

just a quick question please.....

How do i launch AutCAD so there's no blank dwg or existing drawing?

AFAIK, there's no option for that in AutoCAD2008.

In '12 or '13 they finally changed the STARTUP sysvar to permit suppression of "Drawing1"

Oh. That's annoying.

Thanks Nestly.

Enter the STARTUP command. When prompted to enter a new value, enter

That's the correct answer for 2012 and newer, but "2" ( the option to start without a drawing or Startup dialogs) wasn't available in 2011 and older. Maybe STARTUP = 1? but that Startup dialog makes my blood boil.

Oops, my bad. I'm working in 2014.

I've got to ask

Why?

Why? .... because there's absolutely no logical reason we should have to close a blank drawing in every AutoCAD session for a drawing we didn't need/want open to begin with.

That used to happen to me. Then in in 2012 we finally upgraded to a new microwave oven.

Ahh,

I had forgotten that it did that save Drawing1 thing, my Autocads havent done that for years.

It could be because I habitually work in SDI mode (single drawing).

And I use the traditional startup dialogue.

If I dont want to open a drawing on startup I just hit the cancel in the dialogue, or I may use "Start from Scratch".

Start from Scratch does open a Drawing1.dwg but as long as you dont draw anything on it it just goes away when you open another drawing or quit.

Anyway enough of me; I believe the answer to your problem is the DBMOD system variable.

DBMOD tells Autocad when a drawing has been modified.

If this is set to zero in Drawing1 then it will go away as soon as you open another drawing and will not prompt you to save it.

So something in your startup routine is setting DBMOD to none-zero for Drawing1.

Problem is its not that easy to find out what is changing it.
