Dj_T_Rex2002 Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Ok, I was able to right click drag a block from the Design Center and it would ask me if I wanted to "Insert as Block..." ... this would bring the Insert dialog box and when I clicked the ok button it would ask me if I wanted to redefine the block ... we now have a new pc and when I right click drag a block from the Design Center it says "Insert Here" and it will just insert the block without asking if I want to redefine it. Reason why I like the old option is because if you make changes to the actual block you can redefine it so all blocks that you have inserted already, update without needing to delete or edit the block itself in the drawing. Is there a variable to modify the right click option or maybe in the CUI? Please help, thanks. Quote
nestly Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 The "redefine" options are only available if a block with the same name already exists in the drawing AND if the block is being inserted from a different drawing because a block can't redefine itself. Either way, I've never known DC to work as you've described. When I need to redefine (or insert and redefine), I simply right-click on the block inside DC (no right-click dragging involved) and choose the appropriate option. I do have a vague recollection that there is/was an insert variable to do what you described, but I can't recall it right now. Quote
Dj_T_Rex2002 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 I'm trying to post pictures of what I'm talking about but it won't let me ... and yes it is a block with the same name. All I do usually is change the main file (the block from it's location) then go into AutoCAD and replace the block in the drawing from Design Center ... right click on a block from Design Center and you will see the Insert as Block option. nestly Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Are you saying you don't see any right click menu when clicking on blocks within design center, or you don't see the "redefine" options? Quote
Dj_T_Rex2002 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 Ok see when you right click on the block and it has that bold "Insert Block..."? ... Ok hold right click and drag it and drop it to the work space area and you can see the option Insert Block or if you have the settings I have right now it only shows "Insert Here" rather than "Insert Block" ... I like the Insert Block better because when you click it, it gives you the "Insert" dialog box. Quote
nestly Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 For me, it's not possible to do anything with a right-click after the block menu is activated (Insert, redefine, etc) the only option is to select one of the menu options, or click away from the menu so it closes. I have 4 options for inserting a block from DC 1) Right click drag it into the drawing 2) Left click drag it into the drawing 3) Double click it to open the INSERT dialog 4) Right click, then choose INSERT Block from the menu, which opens the INSERT dialog. BTW, this is the behavior for 2011 through 2014, but perhaps 2010 may be different? Quote
Dj_T_Rex2002 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 I wish I could post a video like you are doing. I am using AutoCAD 2010 and AutoCAD 2015 Quote
nestly Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 What's preventing you from posting a screenshot? Is the "Manage Attachements" or "Insert Image" button not working? Quote
Dj_T_Rex2002 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 I click on the image icon ^ and I browse for the jpeg picture and click "Upload file(s)" and nothing happens. As for the video, I have no clue how you are recording it. Quote
nestly Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Is your browser blocking the script (javascript) for yahooapis.com That script is needed for many forum functions to work properly. Regarding DC, can you clarify if you're inserting a dwg file as a block, or inserting an existing block within a dwg file? Options are different, and I only do the latter. Quote
Dj_T_Rex2002 Posted June 19, 2014 Author Posted June 19, 2014 It might be blocked. Our PCs are limited to a lot of things. I insert dwg drawings as a block. The video you are showing last when you right click the Analog Integrated Circuits.dwg you can see the "Insert as Block..." option. You can right click hold and drag it to insert it and it would give me that same option. I can right click and it will show me the Insert as Block option but I want to be able to see it when I try to drag and drop. See if it works for you when you drag and drop the dwg. Quote
