gofindsam Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 CAD USERS: I am looking for help with inserting blocks from the tool palettes. I am working with a 2-D drawing that shows the floor plan using ball valves and many different instruments. I have set up my drawing to 1/8 MVIEW scale. All of my tool blocks are 1:1 scale. Everytime I insert any blocks from the tool palette, the block comes really small. I have to scale up every block I insert. My question here is: Is there a way to set up block scale size in CAD for any drawing scale and every time I insert the block, it will automatically bring up the block to it's appropriate scale? I hope this question is clear. Please let me know. Quote

gofindsam Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Yes I am inserting blocks in model space. I typed in insunits system variable and it only allowed me from 1-20. I need to insert the block and have it automatically scale up 96 times. The reason is because my MVIEW is 1/8"-1'-0" scale. Scaling it up 96 times in model space will bring my blocks to 1/8 size when measuring on paperspace. Does this make sense? Quote
gofindsam Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 Rt-clk on a block in the toolpalette > PropertiesScale and/or Auxillary Scale Thanks for your tip! I'm going to have to change all blocks all the time because every drawing size is different. I work with many different drawings. I wish there was a scroll down list where I can select what scale size to bring in the blocks. You know what I mean? Quote
dbroada Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I typed in insunits system variable and it only allowed me from 1-20. I need to insert the block and have it automatically scale up 96 times. INSUNITS has little to do with scale. It allows blocks drawn in different units to be inserted correctly. If you were drawing in feet and had an item that measured 12" long you would make it 1 unit wide. Somebody else could insert that in their inch based drawing and it would come in automatically at 12 units wide - provided you all had set units correctly in the first place. Apart from using different units, EVERYTHING in model space should be drawn at 1:1. Quote

It shouldn't matter what scale your viewport it set to???? Quote
lpseifert Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 I wish there was a scroll down list where I can select what scale size to bring in the blocks. You know what I mean? People in hell wish they had ice water... it isn't going to happen in a toolpalette; investigate further Auxillary scale, it may do what you want. Know what I mean? You may want to look here for Blk_Lib... http://web2.airmail.net/terrycad/AutoLISP-Code.htm Quote

It shouldn't matter what scale your viewport it set to???? I understand what your saying. The floor plan is very large drawing. Once I put in a block, the block is so tiny that you can't see it. Our CAD standard is to have the ball valve 1/8" height just like the text size must be 1/8" size. With many of our drawings, there are many different drawing scale. Because of the drawing scale, we have to bring up the block larger so that when we plot, the block is 1/8" height. Did I make this picture clear like glass? Quote

What I did was I select all the blocks in my tool palette, right click, I set the auxillary scale to DIMSCALE. Therefore, I had to set my dimscale to 96. In result, it brings my blocks in the scale it is supposed to be. Again, many thanks! Quote
