Issues with Fit Curve command resetting

Hello everyone,

New member to your forum so forgive me if this is the wrong section to ask this question. My company switched from 2012 C3D to 2014 C3D earlier this year.Since the swap over we have noticed a particular issue when processing oursurvey data and using the “Fit Curve” command. Our usual method of importing and processing survey data is to create a Field Book (.fbk) file from the survey data and import it through the Survey Data Base by creating a new network for each group of point data. We then have AutoCAD draw in most of theline work for our pavement, curb and gutter and sidewalk lines (which come in as feature lines) and then go through and do some touch ups around the curves/corners of the roads using the “Fit Curve” command. This has worked out perfectly for versions 2008-2012 of C3D, for 2014 C3D however, while it does work for the initial processing, any additional survey data that is brought in (on a new network) reverts the curves that were previously drawn in back to line segments. This also occurs when we create a surface based on the point/feature line data.

This has become an issue as we currently have a project that we are working that the client has added some additional work to between our 30% and 60%submittals and will possibly add more between our 60% and 90% submittals. This additional work (over a 1 square mile subdivision) will require us to add additional survey data for processing line work and building a surface, which also leads to the issue of the curves resetting each time we add any new information. As of right now, without the new areas added to the base map, it takes about 4hrs for one person to go through and get the curves to fit just right, with the next set of data I am expecting it to take at least another 2hrs of time and so on. With time constraints on the project, having someone sit down and just do curve data each time for 4-6hrs every time new survey data is brought in, is simply something we cannot afford to do.

So my question to all you CAD gurus, is there a system variable that was added between 2012 and 2014 that needs to be changed? An option? Setting? Anything that can be done so we can keep the feature line data from the survey and retain the curves without having to redraw them every time new Survey data is imported or Surface is updated?

Thank you all for your time and help,

Ryan

Anything? Or any ideas to work around this issue other than blowing up all the line work?
