trying 2014 and wonder if there is a way to stop the popup on startup which says it has detected untrusted lisp routines?

Please check the APPAUTOLOAD, SECURELOAD and TRUSTEDPATHS system variables - those were security features newly added to release 2014.

Set the system variable (secureload) to zero .
