baker
Ready for the newbiest question of them all? I did search and i have tried, but i need help... I need to nest my "_shortcuts" folder. we are working on revamping our servers and project folders. We are proposing the following folder structure (i'll just list the path for the DWGs) X:\ -> 01_projects\ --> Client Name\ ---> Project Name\ ----> 01_Site Name\ -----> 04_Engineering\ ------> 00_CAD\ -------> 00_Model\ --------> DATA ----> 02_Site Name\ -----> 04_Engineering\ ------> 00_CAD\ -------> 00_Model\ --------> DATA ----> 03_Site Name\ -----> 04_Engineering\ ------> 00_CAD\ -------> 00_Model\ --------> DATA ....etc.... 1: I want the "WORKING FOLDER" to be "Project Name" and i want the shortcuts to be in the "DATA" folder... 2: so yeah... I have a template of folders ready to go... a follow up.. is how do i set the default template location to our server location? I know.. You'd think i have not been using Civil 3D since 2008... lol. lets just say, i have never worked at this level or scope. Thank you.
BlackBox
Hi Joe, Civil 3D's Working Folder is always two (2) folders up from the ..\_shortcuts\ being associated to a given project's drawings. Just be sure that you do not include the .XML file from an existing ..\_shortcuts\ folder in your project template, as this will cause Toolspace to not find the correct working folder even when associated with a project. Set the working folder manually/programmatically and a new .XML file will be generated... The crux being the GUID contained with said .XML file. BlackBox
X:\ -> 01_projects\ --> Client Name\ ---> Project Name\ ----> 01_Site Name\ -----> 04_Engineering\ ------> 00_CAD\ -------> 00_Model\ --------> DATA ----> 02_Site Name\ -----> 04_Engineering\ ------> 00_CAD\ -------> 00_Model\ --------> DATA ----> 03_Site Name\ -----> 04_Engineering\ ------> 00_CAD\ -------> 00_Model\ --------> DATA so.. i can add the _shortcuts to "##_data" folder??? ----> 02_Site Name\ -----> 04_Engineering\ ------> ##_data You can use ..\##_Site Name\04_Engineering\_shortcuts\, and the 'project' listed in Working Folder dialog would be '##_Site Name'. Did you get different results when you tested this for yourself? Cheers Edited September 17, 2014 by BlackBox Typo
baker
Civil 3D will not allow me to nest that far. Civil 3D creates it = .\Project\Folder1\_shortcuts\.. How i want it = .\Project\Folder1\Folder2\Folder3\_shortcuts\.. heck, I'd be happy with what you show: .\Project\Folder1\Folder2\_shortcuts\.. BlackBox
Civil 3D will not allow me to nest that far. Civil 3D creates it = .\Project\Folder1\_shortcuts\.. Correct. How i want it = .\Project\Folder1\Folder2\Folder3\_shortcuts\.. Unfortunately, that is not possible, as I've been trying to point out. heck, I'd be happy with what you show: .\Project\Folder1\Folder2\_shortcuts\.. Apologies for the typo - that's what I get for posting from a mobile device w/ copy & paste. Post corrected. Cheers
