Sweep/Loft Feature?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Please see the attached photo. I am trying to make a 'bulge' that is in the C shape of the orange sketch that follows the half-circle (grey sketch), and that ends on the gray surface. I have tried sweep and loft, but my main problem is ending on the 3-d (non planar) surface. Is there a way to extrude only to that surface by following the grey curve? Please help me out if you can.

Thank you!

This is probably not the answer you want, but you could do this in Rhino.

I think even Inventor would have problems with this one.

which version are you working with. You can do this a few ways(just off the top of my head). it may be easier to do this by creating a surface. If your surface is closed it will be come a solid feature.

is it possible for you to send me the file or is it something work related/confidential? i can give it a shot in the morning if you like.

Unfortunately, it is work related and I wouldn't be able to share the file. Any help is appreciated. I am losing my mind over it!

well ill do the best i can:)

Just looking at it there are a few ways "i think" you can do this.

I guess first do you need this part to be joined to your grey part?

You can Sweep your top sketch using the other arc as a path. this wont "meet" the curve on the bottom but will give you most of what you are looking for. You can also add guide curves to the sweep but i havent played with this feature in an instance like your part.

Another thing you can do is convert the edges of the grey part using convert entities and use them as your second sketch(3d sketch) for a loft. I added red lines to your picture to show you which lines to use. since the other lines appear vertical this may work out just fine, then use your vertical arc as a guide.

those are the two that come to mind. I started to try and recreate what you have there but didnt get very far. I would love to but i just dont have the time today to mess with drawing it sorry.

let me know if you can get either of those to work.
