My sleep mode has spontaneously started invoking every 30 to 60 seconds. Annoying. I've gone to desktop/properties/screensaver and found it set to 60 seconds. Not a setting I've ever chosen.

I reset to 5 min.'s. Does this setting present any problems. Overheating, etc.?

I have a one year old hp xw 4400 with windows xp 32 bit.

Thanks

I see absolutely no reason why a reset to 5 minutes would cause any problems.

I'd be interested to know why it set itself to 60 seconds.

Do you have practical jokers in your midst?

Best explanation I can offer is, I've received an xp update in the last few days and it may have tripped something. Otherwise totally spontaneous and mysterious. I've stopped trying to explain and just repair and move on.

Sometimes you can't repair it if you don't know what is causing it.

This is true. What I mean by repair and move on is, I seem to have repaired the frequent sleep screen and my only remaining question is whether the 5 min. setting poses any problems for my monitor.

My understanding is LCD monitors have no problem without sleep mode, however, I have a CRT and don't know if the longer sleep mode is okay for a CRT.
