Fix Exploded Lines??

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a bunch of fence lines that someone exploded so now they are just little dashes with "X's" in between. Is there a way to turn them all back into one line or a pline?

Thanks!

PEDIT Multiple with a tolerance greater than the gap may work for you.

I think you will find that this line type was not done in AutoCAD. Some other drawing programme was used and it is doing the best it can to show a fence line. So you can't join them because they are separate pieces of line in the first place and no one has exploded them. Annoying isn't it?

Hmm well I know that line is a custom line that a co-worker created for fences. It was created in ACAD.

Raggi Thor, I tried what you said, but I had no luck. One thing is they arent plines anymore because they have been exploded.

I know in some 3D programs there is a "group" function. Is there anything like that in ACAD 07??

I don't have a suggestion but I'm curious how the line got exploded down to component parts. I've only managed that with a lisp routine. Why was somebody that desperate to explode the line?

Doesn't the alternative Multiple give you the option to enter a fuzz distance (toleranse)?

AutoCAD® 2000i contains many new and enhanced features that streamline everyday editing chores, increasing efficiency and relieving some of the tedium involved in carrying out highly repetitive drawing tasks. For example, you can now edit multiple polylines (2D and 3D) simultaneously with the new Multiple option in the PEDIT command. The new prompt, which looks like this:

Select polyline or [Multiple]

allows you to change the polylines' width, apply the Spline option, even close all open polylines, all in one operation.

It's this simple: choose the Multiple option by typing m in the command line. Or right-click in the drawing area and choose Multiple from the shortcut menu. Then select the polylines and choose the PEDIT option you want to apply.

The Join option of the PEDIT command has been refined, too. Now you can join two polylines that are not touching, if you use the Multiple option first. Call the Multiple option, select the polylines, and then choose the Join option (type j or right-click and choose Join). Here's the new prompt:

Enter fuzz distance or [Jointype] :

What is fuzz distance? And what does jointype mean?

Fuzz distance is the maximum distance in units that the endpoints of the polylines can be from each other. In other words, for the join to work, the fuzz distance must be greater than the distance of the endpoints. Use the fuzz distance to make sure that selected polyline endpoints that are far apart are not joined and only the nearest endpoints are joined. If you want to join the endpoints no matter what, type in a very large number.

I think someone exploded the lines in order to change the line weight of the "X's" so when its plotted they dont look like little blobs on the paper. I use an "overlay" line type to put on top of the fence line so I dont have to explode. Basically the dashed lines and the X's are two separate line weights.

Having seen your drawing, I still don't think that the line type was exploded, but was created in the days when you could not put a letter in a linetype. You created the linetype by drawing it as it is, very laborious, and what a saving when you could put letters in the linetype something like this:-

*BARBEDWIRE1,Fenceline -X-X-X

A,.5,-.25,["X",STANDARD,S=.24,R=0,X=-0.12,Y=-.12],-.25,.5,-.25,.05,-.25,.5,-.25,.05,-.25
