I know there was a program called AutoCAD Mechanical 2013 but I wasn't aware there was a Mechanical Desktop 2013. That doesn't sound right. Could you be referring to plain AutoCAD 2013 instead?

Mechanical Desktop was discontinued and the last version was 2009. Perhaps the OP is using Inventor?

You should be able to "export to AutoCAD" from AutoCAD Mechanical. Much like I can in AutoCAD Architecture. This will remove all of the non-vanilla AutoCAD entities.
