Sheet doesn't appear the same as View does

You X-Ref'ed your door? Well I'd have a look in the source file then.

no, the door is an object in the construct drawing file. it appears fine there though. it even appears fine in the view drawing where the construct drawing is an xref. it only appears screwed up in the sheet drawing, which contains and xref of the view drawing.

this is apparently how autodesk wants us to work, but it strikes me as needlessly complicated.

I'll be honest, I don't use the project or content manager or any of that new fangled stuff. To me it offers nothing over a properly organized block library, and it feels slower to boot. I'm sure it has its uses for some, just not me.

Try saving a duplicate copy of the file and bind that XRef to it. If it still doesn't show, try exploding the newly created block. At the least lets try to isolate the problem.

what's another way to work with a multi level drawing that uses aec objects? is it possible to build the entire model in a single file, rather than having separate drawings for each floor? i'm completely new to this and yet find myself determining the future standard of our office based on what i find that works. this construct/view/sheet bs doesn't seem to be it.

Your frustration is almost palpable. We create our entire drawing in the same file, but we also use an add-on which is fairly specific to our industry (log homes) That add-on allows us to group objects so we can easily turn then on and off in each viewport. That can be done by smart handling of the Layer Manager as well. Maybe someone else here has more experience doing multilevel structures in ADT.

(As a side note, I believe the Project Center nonsense was implemented for large scale structures, Apartment buildings and the like. So it may not have been intended for more typical residential structures. I have no proof of this however)

ok, i think i see how i can make all this work. back to the drawing board, as it were. going to pull everything into one drawing (which will make the old school guy here VERY happy) and use creative use of the elevation setting (which i just discovered) to make everything go into the right place. That, combined with the cut plane option (thank you for pointing that out) should allow us to work with this much more like we currently are, but with fancy objects.

*fingers crossed*

no, none of that works without eliminating our ability to include 2d linework in the drawings.

i have to figure out this damn threshold problem.

2D Linework can still be controlled with the layer manager. Set up your template with your necessary viewports, activate them and freeze those layers which you don't want to display. Or consider moving some of your linework, especially dimensions or callouts to paperspace on an annotation layer.

  • 1 year later...

But why not attempt closure for others searching for solutions.

The solution to your sill display may be in the wall display configuration not the actual display configuration of the object. I just struggled with this on a window. Edit the wall style, override the plan view and go to the "other" tab. Check the "do true cut" button. OK out and save and reload.
