Afternoon

Is there such a thing as a block library like in sketchup - just something with generic 3D trees / chairs / people ??

Thank you in advance.

"Explore Sample Drawings" on the NewTab. The blocks are stored within the sample drawings and IMO are best accessed through Design Center (type DC at the command line then navigate to the location of the sample drawings)

Thank you - which sample drawing would you recommend for 3d basics ?

Whoops... I missed the "3D" part  I don't think AutoCAD includes any 3D blocks, and doesn't even offer a decent library online.

Any ide where I could get some free ones?

There is a lot of stuff out there you just have to look for it unfortunatley, some is free some at a price. Just google 1 item at a time "3d trees Autocad free"

I would suggest you google 'free 3d AutoCAD blocks'. Or you could head straight to http://www.turbosquid.com they have the largest quality 3d block library, both free and paid, that I know of. Just keep in mind that they are not all in the AutoCAD dwg format, you could however convert most of the other formats into dwg. Just be aware some free blocks may have copyright conditions that prevent commercial use, make sure you respect any copyright requirements.

And remember, models don't have to be in .dwg format only. AutoCAD can import a variety of different formats. Just run the IMPORT command and check out the "Files of Type" list.
