I was just wondering, can you use the pen tbalets for Cad with ease?....

I would like to be able to use it on autrocad and solidworks for curves and stuff to extrude cool shapes?

Is it possible?....

Thanks.

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Your tablet is just a mouse with more a more comfortable feel for someone who draws. It would work pretty much like Photoshop or CorelDraw.

Hook it up and give it a test drive and let us know. If for some reason I can steal my husband's tablet from the house and bring it to work to test drive I will.:D

But I prefer using the mouse at this time.

Not really, AutoCAD is more of a point to point system. There may be addons which allow that kind of control, but the closest I've seen in Vanilla AutoCAD is the Revision Cloud tool. It doesn't draw a smooth line, but a series of arcs to make a...you guessed it...cloud.

The Wacom style tablets are indeed very cool, and very expensive compared to a mouse or trackball. But I'd imagine the feel of using one for AutoCAD would be more akin to doing conventional drafting on the board. Which frankly is why I want one

Well Max, if I had an extra one in my husband's office I'd send you one. He a pretty nice set up for his b-day last year and loves it for CorelDraw & Photoshop.

I'm still planning on stealing it to try out here at work.. hehe

It would be very cool to use... I was thnkin like getting cardboard cutting out complex shapes, and then being able to trace or draw these useing a pen tablet....

So now ye are unsure if the tablet will work with CAD or solidworks?...

You won't be able to draw free-hand in CAD. CAD won't work like MS Paint, CorelDraw, etc. Sorry if that's what you were hoping for. :(

Solid Works????????????........

That one I couldn't answer because I have never used it. Sorry.:(

To summarize, I'm fairly certain that most any CAD package will not have the "pencil" command you desire. What you are looking to do though would be great for Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc. I am unsure about 3D packages like 3DMax. Or for Rhino, Maya, and their ilk, but I think haptic devices (digital sculpting tools) like the Phantom or Omni are preferred there.

Never used it. Download it and look for a pencil or freehand tool. How a program works with a tablet is pretty much the same as how it works with a tablet. The computer doesn't see a difference as far as two dimensional coordinates are concerned.

Now tablets usually offer pressure sensitivity to link to z values or lineweights...but thats a whole 'nother tangent...
