vernonlee
Have you tried this? Hi RobDraw, i would if i have the save button. Any setting to bring it out? This is mine I am using Autodesk Autocad 2014
RobDraw
How about that? It's only available in verticals. See this thread, http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-2013-2014-2015/can-t-save-import-layer-filters-in-acad-2015/td-p/5517022, and check out the links for a workaround. BTW, your profile ways you are using 2015 not that would have made any difference in this case.
RobDraw
Is that really what you are looking for or do you want to save your layer states? The terminology in your OP is confusing.

No i do not want to save layer states. I want to be able to filter layers for other drawings & don't want to keep creating it every time. I will look at the link when i am back in office. RobDraw
If you use the same ones all the time, you could put them into your template.

RobDraw
The same way you do it to a dwg. With one of the workarounds. Barring that, you need to create them in the template.

I understand what you mean now. The problem is I am always working on existing drawings created by others.
RobDraw
The problem is your software version does not have the functionality. Have you looked into the workarounds? You could copy and paste their drawings into a new file created from your template.

Actually I am just printing the 100 over drawings. And there are certain layers that need to be freeze off. I am using the filter to make it easier for me to see those are freeze off instead of scrolling over hundreds of layers. So basically it does not make sense for me to copy to a new drawing with my template. There is a whole lot of other stuff not mention risking messing up the drawing. I am just printing the drawing only.
RobDraw
Now the you say that? You are talking about layer states. I'm fairly certain they can be exported/imported in vanilla AC.
vernonlee
Now the you say that? You are talking about layer states. I'm fairly certain they can be exported/imported in vanilla AC. I know layer states can be imported. I have work with them every now & then but not very extensive. I am just not sure if they can work in my situation. The drawing has xref in them & are different depending on storey. So basically there are different layers in most if the drawings. So that is why i wanted to use filter as the layers I need to check if there are freeze or thaw are consistent. I basically use the wild card. Example *area* , *rev* If layer states can work, I am willing to try. Thanks.
RobDraw
Layer states need to be exported to a .las in order to import. You might want to look at Layer Translator for a more powerful tool.
JamCAD
You could possibly run a script on the drawings. Something like: -Layer thaw *area* freeze *rev* The command line version of the layer command accepts wild cards.

But how to do it with multiple layers? Like this: ;thaw;*area1* *area2* *area3*;freeze;*rev1* *rev2* *rev2*; or ;thaw;*area1*,*area2*,*area3*;freeze;*rev1*,*rev2* *rev3*; or ;thaw;*area1*;thaw;*area2*;thaw;*area3*;freeze;*rev1*freeze;*rev2*;freeze; *rev3*;

I have exported/imported layer states beween drawings before. just not sure how it can be useful in my situition. Perhaps you can elobrate? Layertrans i use before as well mainly to convert all layers to another layer. How would this help in this? Thanks
JamCAD
Ok. I have created scripts before so I can use this approach. But how to do it with multiple layers? You can use a comma to seperate layers. Or you could repeat the thaw for each command So -Layer Thaw Layer1 Thaw Layer2 Is the same as -Layer Thaw Layer1,Layer2 Also a note about wildcards -Layer Thaw *area* Will thaw all layers with "area" in the name. Including "area1" "Floor 3 - Area 2" etc.
vernonlee
ok. I got it with the comma. As for the wildcard, i know. Anyway for area i have to specify as some areas need to freeze, some areas need to be shown. That is also why i opted for layer filters where i can visually see the freeze/thaw symbol. But i can see the benefits of using scripts. I can just run it & print it right away & save time. I will try it out. However seeing the symbol just give me the assurance.
