whytepawn1 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Hello guys am pretty new to the world of CAD and am interested in the electrical and mechanical aspect. I would be glad if anyone could give me a few pointers and recommend materials which would be of benefit to a newbie such as myself. would be elated to hear from the gurus in the house. Quote
ReMark Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 There are many sub-disciplines when it comes to electrical engineering so we'll need some further information from you on which one specifically you are interested in. Are you a student? Quote
whytepawn1 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 Am a recent graduate of electrical engineering, majored in electronics engineering. I want to be schooled in electrical drafting for residential buildings .I would be grateful if you could help me with materials to that effect. thanks Quote
ReMark Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 (edited) The two disciplines aren't even related. Why did you change your mind about what you wanted to do? Maybe you ought to consider joining an electrician apprenticeship program and get your hands dirty. Once you have learned to actually wire up a house in the real world you can translate that knowledge into electrical drafting. The one drawback is an apprenticeship program takes about four years to complete. Edited June 4, 2015 by ReMark Quote
whytepawn1 Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 Am not planning on changing course, actually I have a little background in house wiring, more so am just trying to have a broad knowledge cos in my part of the world, paper qualification alone guarantees nothing. That's why i want to get myself acquainted with drafting pending when i could be buoyant enough to go for an elaborate training.. but for now I will appreciate all the help i can get. Quote
tzframpton Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Some years ago my company cross trained the MEP groups in electrical design with this book: http://www.amazon.com/Electrical-Design-Commercial-Industrial-Buildings/dp/0763758280/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1433430551&sr=1-1&keywords=electrical+design+of+commercial+and+industrial+buildings It was a fantastic book, and comes with a CD-ROM with the AutoCAD files to go along with the exercises. Not only that, it gives you what you need for calculating basic electrical loads, etc. If you can get a hold of this book, it's worth every penny. Quote
