Hi guys,

Noob here working with the metric system.

Inorder to work with metric, I know i must be using an an acadiso.dwt.

I know that in model space, acadisos are automatically set to mm (so is the viewport), But what do i have to change in the drawing units to irorder to use CM in model space?

Length type: decimal

Insertion scale to cm? is that it? (i doubt it thats only for the insertion of blocks)

Thanks

As I mentioned in your other thread, you can change it with the -dwgunits command, look at the commandline history, and you will see that if you enter you will be working in centimeters.

Read the commandline prompts slowly and carefully, and you can do it quite easily, just pay attention.

-DWGUNITS

Drawing units:

1. Inches

2. Feet

3. Millimeters

4. Centimeters

5. Decimeters

6. Meters

Unit for length : 4

Drawing unit display formats:

1. Scientific

2. Decimal

Linear display format :

Linear display precision :

Scale objects from other drawings upon insert? [Yes/No] :

Match INSUNITS to drawing units? [Yes/No] : y

** WARNING: you have changed the unit for this drawing database. **

** All new objects will be drawn according to the new unit, but **

** existing objects will not change size unless you specifically **

** ask to have automatic scaling occur. **

Scale objects in current drawing to reflect change in units? [Yes/No] : y

Include objects in Paper Space? [Yes/No] : y

Thanks,

I just checked -DWGUNITS and Drawing units were 3 (mm) :(

I dont understand how, but before I entered -dwgunits my dimensions and units were fine. Even when i dimension I get the units that I needed to represent CM.

Seems like you were right Dadgad, when i did a print out at 1:1 my 5 units equaled 5mm, I had to put my viewport at 10:1 to get it measuring of 5cm.

So will my viewport scalling be changed accordingly as well?

The thing with metric is if you enter 5 it will be 5 when dimensioned is it m cm mm, by the same token you can draw in mm but dim in cm by adjusting the scale factor in the dimension style, a recent project was drawn in metres so for a structural detail a hole was labelled 0.010 a quick fix was to set the dim scale factor to 1000 save as a new style and just update the dims as required. The main thing with the units is the scale factor used when you plot mm will need a bigger number than metres.
