I have all the 'raster image references' in my drawings as relative paths - this works great for transfering the drawing and associated folder to another machine. I want to have the same set up for the custom jpegs I have used as textures for the materials in this drawing. Acad doesnt give you an option for this, like it does with raster images, so how is it done? :huh:

I realize this is an old thread, but it never got any attention, sooooo . . .

When you set up your job folder, be sure to keep a definite hierarchy for your project files and folders. I do all of my 3D work in 3DS Max, but the same principle applies to Autocad. My typical job folder setup is shown below:

Job Folder

1----> Main Scene File - This would be my main .max scene file or .dwg scene file

1----> Support Files Folder

2------------> Xref Files - These would be any .max or .dwg external reference files, (of course)

2------------> Models & Materials Folder

3---------------------> .max files or .dwg files - Any specific models used in the scene

3---------------------> Materials Folder

4------------------------------> All image files required for the scene

Setting up my job folder in this way, allows every .max or .dwg file to look backwards into previous folders for whatever is needed. This allows me to move my files back and forth between home and work and nothing ever has to be repathed. And having the Materials Folder at the very end of the chain allows every file above it to have access to the image files.

- does it really work in that chain fashion for locating files? I had no idea about that, how odd. Will try. Thanks.
